70 years after the massacre, the land of Son Cam Ha in the former Quang Nam province, now Da Nang city, has faced many difficulties due to the consequences and legacy of war, but with its heroic revolutionary tradition, Son Cam Ha commune today has made efforts, determined, united and risen up to build its homeland to become increasingly prosperous.
Historical milestone
In February 1955, the Kuomintang reactionaries organized a meeting under the pretext of seceding from the Ngo Dinh Diem government, openly establishing a reactionary government in three communes: Tien Son, Tien Cam, Tien Ha and establishing an anti-Diem resistance zone called "Nam Ngai Binh Ky". From here, with the policy of "first destroying the Communists, then opposing Diem, and rejecting feudalism", after unsuccessfully luring them, the Kuomintang reactionaries openly searched for and kidnapped cadres, party members and patriotic people of Son-Cam-Ha, killed them and hid their bodies.

They used many barbaric forms of torture such as: drinking blood, raping, hanging, smashing heads, burying alive... The enemy's terror and cruelty became more and more blatant. They brazenly sent soldiers to raid houses to arrest and tie up our cadres and party members, bringing them back to detain and torture them, causing a wave of extreme indignation among the people.
During nearly 300 days and nights, from February to December 1955, nearly 400 cadres and party members in the Son-Cam-Ha area were brutally murdered. Many families had 2-3 people murdered by them, such as: the family of Mr. Nguyen De, Mrs. Cao Thi Mau in Tien Son commune, the family of Mr. Le Ba Kieu in Tien Cam commune...

In particular, before surrendering to the Ngo Dinh Diem government, on the night of December 2, 1955, the Kuomintang committed a savage massacre. In the last days of November and the first days of December 1955, the Kuomintang organized a search to arrest every single one of us in all three communes of Son-Cam-Ha. Unlike the previous arrests, this time there was no need to interrogate or question, just arrest and kill. They used rattan ropes to tie each person, connecting them to each other in a long line and leading them to the prepared pig pits. The person in front was trampled into the pit, all the remaining people were dragged along, layer upon layer of people falling down. Not stopping there, they frantically used rocks to pound down the pit and covered it with dirt amid the loud shouts and angry screams of the survivors: "Down with the Kuomintang"; "Long live Ho Chi Minh !".

Secretary of the Son Cam Ha Commune Party Committee, Da Nang City Tram Que Huong said that the massacre in Son Cam Ha could not terrorize the spirit of cadres, party members, and people in Son Cam Ha, but on the contrary, it urged the will to fight, hatred, and determination to rise up and fight for independence and freedom for the homeland and country. Since then, the movement of the masses in Son Cam Ha has grown stronger and stronger, causing the Kuomintang forces here to quickly weaken and perish.
“Continuing the resistance war against the US, the people of Son-Cam-Ha suppressed their grief to transform it into revolutionary action, determined to fight for independence and freedom for their homeland and country. Continuing the tradition of steadfast and indomitable struggle against internal and external enemies, in the Son-Cam-Ha war zone, they made resounding achievements in the whole district and the whole province, gradually defeating the war plans of the US-puppet, moving forward to liberate the homeland”, comrade Tram Que Huong shared.
Land changes after 70 years
After the country was completely liberated, the people in Son-Cam-Ha suffered heavy consequences from the war. However, with the heroic revolutionary tradition and the virtues of diligence, hard work, dynamism and creativity, the Party Committee and people of Son-Cam-Ha united to build and protect the homeland and the country in the new period, achieving many achievements in all fields of economy, culture, society, security and national defense.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Cam Ha Commune, Da Nang City Pham Viet Hau said that after 70 years of the massacre, the Son-Cam-Ha area has been increasingly developed, and people's lives have been improved both materially and spiritually. Policies to repay gratitude to people with revolutionary contributions have been actively implemented by the Party and State from the central to local levels.
In particular, after implementing the 2-level local government model, Son Cam Ha commune was established on the basis of arranging and merging the administrative boundaries of Tien Son, Tien Ha and Tien Chau communes of Tien Phuoc district, Quang Nam province (old) with a natural area of 118.74 km², a population of 17,608 people, including a total of 20 villages. This is also a purely agricultural commune with over 90% of the population living on agriculture, with great potential in terms of land and favorable climate conditions for economic development.

Of which, the total annual tree planting area is estimated at 1,777/1,171ha of the plan, reaching 101% of the plan. Garden economic development continues to be identified as an important goal and task, promoting the strengths of the locality; forestry economy has developed quite strongly, from 2020 to now, 720ha of forest has been planted among the people, forest economic income has reached more than 50.4 billion VND; since the beginning of the term, 145 projects have been invested with a total cost of 70.17 billion VND...
During the 2025-2030 term, the Party Committee of Son Cam Ha commune strives to build a commune that meets advanced new rural standards.
