(CPV) - Strikers Tien Linh and Xuan Son scored in the final minutes of extra time to help the Vietnamese team win 2-0 on Singapore's field in the first leg of the ASEAN Cup 2024 semi-final, which took place on the evening of December 26.
Like previous matches against the Philippines on artificial turf, in this confrontation, the Vietnamese team played cautiously and prioritized solidity. Singapore's ball possession rate was up to 67% but the home team did not create any dangerous attacks in the first half.
The number of shots of the Vietnamese team was not more than the opponent. The match took place at a slower pace in the last minutes of the first half and ended the first half with a draw of 0-0. This was the 5th consecutive match that the Vietnamese team did not score a goal in the first half.

Right at the beginning of the second half, Duy Manh and Ho Tan Tai were sent onto the field by coach Kim Sang Sik. In the 60th minute, Tien Linh and Doan Ngoc Tan entered the field to replace Dinh Thanh Binh and Quang Hai.
Just like in the first half, the Singapore team continued to control the ball more, the number of passes from the home team also overwhelmed the Vietnamese team. In the first half of the second half, the ball was continuously circulated in the Vietnamese team's field, causing Dinh Trieu's goal to be constantly on alert. In the 69th minute, Thanh Chung's missed clearance allowed the Singaporean player to shoot dangerously in the penalty area, but goalkeeper Dinh Trieu made a spectacular save.
In the 83rd minute, Xuan Son fired a perfect shot into the Singapore net. However, after nearly 10 minutes of VAR checking, the referee disallowed the goal of the Vietnamese striker.
The second half had 10 minutes of stoppage time. In the 90+8 minute, the referee awarded the Vietnamese team a penalty after a Singaporean player let the ball touch his hand. On the 11m mark, Tien Linh fooled the opposing goalkeeper to open the score 1-0 for the Vietnamese team.
3 minutes after the first goal, from a left corner kick, Xuan Son rushed in and scored the second goal against Singapore, raising the score to 2-0.
The remaining time was not enough for the Singapore players to make a miracle, the Vietnamese team won 2-0 against Singapore in the first leg of the semi-final away match.
With this result, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team have a big advantage in the second leg at Viet Tri Stadium ( Phu Tho ) at 8:00 p.m. on December 29./.
