Vietnam team plays friendly match against Syria at Thien Truong Stadium

The opponent is Syria - a team that is ranked 5 places higher than Vietnam on the FIFA Rankings and is led by famous coach Hector Cuper.

On the afternoon of May 29, the delegation of the Vietnam Football Federation had a working session with the leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Nam Dinh province on the plan to organize a friendly match between the Vietnam team and the Syria team at Thien Truong Stadium.

This is also the first time the Vietnamese team has appeared before the Thanh Nam audience - the enthusiastic fans of Vietnamese football who have made a strong impression with the festive atmosphere in the stands of Thien Truong Stadium at the 31st SEA Games as well as at the home team's matches in the V.League.

Receiving and working with the delegation of the Vietnam Football Federation, the leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Nam Dinh province expressed their excitement when their hometown Thanh Nam had the opportunity to host an international match of the Vietnam team.

Nam Dinh province affirmed that it will closely coordinate with the Vietnam Football Federation and create the most favorable conditions for the Vietnamese team as well as the Syrian guest team when they come to Nam Dinh to play friendly matches to serve Nam Dinh fans in particular and fans nationwide in general.

Immediately after the meeting, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Nam Dinh province will have a specific report to the Provincial People's Committee to soon deploy preparations for the match.

Regarding the opponent of the friendly match, the Syrian team is currently ranked 90th in the world, 5 places higher than the Vietnamese team on the FIFA Rankings. This team also entered the final qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup in Asia like Vietnam.

Syria won 6 points in this qualifying round, with 1 win against Lebanon and 3 draws against opponents Iraq (2 times) and UAE. Syria also showed their discomfort when only narrowly losing to World Cup teams like Iran and South Korea in the first leg of the qualifying round at that time.

Leading Syria is the famous coach Hector Cuper. This 65-year-old strategist has led famous European clubs in the past such as Valencia, Inter Milan, Real Betis or Parma. Recently, he has led Egypt, Uzbekistan, Congo before coaching Syria.
