On the evening of July 28, the Ministry of Education and Training announced that as of 5:00 p.m. the same day, the ministry's general admission system recorded more than 849,000 candidates registering for admission with more than 7.6 million university and college admission wishes (an average of 8.96 wishes/candidate).
Compared to the number of more than 1.16 million students taking the high school graduation exam in 2025, there were about 310,000 students who did not register their university and college admission wishes on the ministry's system (equivalent to 26.7% of candidates missing the opportunity to enter university and college in the first round).
The Ministry said the number of candidates registering for admission in 2025 increased by 115,892 candidates compared to last year (due to candidates registering for admission to vocational colleges).
There are still some candidates who have submitted their registration information close to the closing time, so the system is continuing to process them.
TT | Content | 2025 |
1 | Number of candidates taking high school graduation exam | 1,160,033 |
2 | Number of candidates registered for admission | 849,544 |
3 | Number of applications for university and college admission in 2025 | 7,615,560 |

From 2022, each year about 30% of students do not register their university admission wishes, according to the Ministry of Education and Training, this is normal.
Candidates who do not submit their admission wishes do so because they feel they are not capable of passing the university entrance exam or have other options such as studying abroad or attending vocational college... This also helps the admission process reduce unnecessary effort and waste.
From July 29 to 5:00 p.m. on August 5, candidates will officially pay the admission fee according to the number of wishes online according to the Ministry's instructions.
From August 16 to 20, the Ministry of Education and Training will process admission applications (virtual filtering).
According to schedule, universities are expected to announce the first round of benchmark scores from August 20, with the deadline before 5:00 p.m. on August 22.
Before 5:00 p.m. on August 30, candidates must complete the admission confirmation on the system if they wish to study (including candidates who are directly admitted).
The Ministry of Education and Training requires training institutions not to ask candidates to confirm admission or enroll before August 22 and not to complete admission confirmation before August 30.
