Dong Nai: Leader of Xuan Hung Commune People's Committee arrested for lax land management

On the afternoon of February 28, Dong Nai Provincial Police temporarily detained a number of leaders of the People's Committee of Xuan Hung Commune, Xuan Loc District for violations in land management.

Where the violation occurred

Including Chairman of Xuan Hung Commune People's Committee Tran Dinh Lai, Vice Chairman of Commune People's Committee Tran Thi Mai Phuong and land officials.

According to initial information, some leaders of Xuan Hung Commune People's Committee violated lax land management, allowing illegal land exploitation to spread throughout the area for a long time (before 2022). Specifically, in Xuan Hung Commune, there is a source of clay concentrated in the Mon Hill area. For many years, clay in the Mon Hill area has been illegally exploited by subjects to sell to the market as raw materials for brick production. Around the Mon Hill area, there are 35 brick kilns operating.

Regarding illegal mining, in just 2 years (2018 and 2019), Xuan Loc District Police inspected, discovered and proposed competent authorities to punish many cases and some subjects, with a fine of over 3 billion VND. However, due to the scarce demand for brick-making land and high profits, the subjects still secretly mined illegally.

Previously, in June 2021, Mr. Vo Van Phi, Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee, directed the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and Xuan Loc District People's Committee to set up a specialized team to inspect the land exploitation in Xuan Hung commune, then have a specific report to handle the matter. Since then, there has been no more illegal exploitation in Mon Hill area.
