The Krong Pach Thuong Reservoir Project is one of the important projects in the strategy to implement the Overall Program for Sustainable Agricultural Development Adapting to Climate Change to 2030 and Vision to 2050 of Dak Lak province. With the set goals, the project has delighted many people in the project's beneficiary areas.

On April 19, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the People's Committee of Dak Lak province to organize the inauguration ceremony of the Krong Pach Thuong Reservoir Headworks Complex, Phase 1. This is one of the works inaugurated and put into use to celebrate the 50th anniversary of National Reunification Day, April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025.

The total investment of the first phase of the Krong Pach Thuong Reservoir Project is 4,416 billion VND. In the first phase, the project will build the headworks of the Krong Pach Thuong Reservoir, the main canal system, the North main canal, the South main canal and 9 level I canals of the South main canal; the Ea Rot Reservoir project and the canal system.

The project started in June 2010 and by 2016, the Ea Rot Reservoir had been completed and put into use. The Krong Pach Thuong Reservoir started in March 2016 and was completed in December 2023.

The Krong Pach Thuong Reservoir Project has a basin area of ​​233.6 km2, capacity of 122.69 million m3 including: Earth dam No. 1 is 484.5m long, dam surface width 10m, height 38m; Earth dam No. 2 is 478.5m long, dam surface width 10m, height 30m; Earth dam No. 3 is 87m long, dam surface width 7m, height 7.8m; Spillway No. 1: Spillway with gate, size 3x10.0m, designed discharge flow 1,183m3/s; Spillway No. 2: Free spillway, spillway width 70m, designed discharge flow 168.0m3/s; water intake culvert is a steel pipe structure with diameter 2.4m placed in a reinforced concrete corridor with a flow of 14.04m3/s.

The canal system has a total length of 63.08km, of which the main canal is 0.825km long, the northern main canal is 21.354km long, the southern main canal is 13.4km long and the subordinate canal system of the southern main canal includes 9 routes with a total length of 27.505km.

Auxiliary works include: Headquarters management area, construction and management road, 22kV power line and transformer station...

The Ea Rot Reservoir project has a basin area of ​​48.94 km2, a capacity of 18.53 million m3, including 1 earthen dam, 1 spillway; 1 water intake; a canal system about 63 km long... The project was completed and handed over to the management unit for exploitation and use since 2016, and has promoted the investment efficiency of irrigation water supply for 2,150 hectares of cultivated land in the communes of Cu Ea Lang and Ea O of Ea Kar District.

The objective of the Krong Pach Thuong Reservoir Project Phase 1 is to provide irrigation water for 14,900 hectares of agricultural land in Ea Kar district, Krong Pac district, Dak Lak province; provide domestic water for about 72,916 people and livestock; reduce floods, prevent waterlogging in the downstream; create tourist landscapes, aquaculture and contribute to improving the climate of the project area, improving the lives of people in the area, serving the development of the socio-economic sector and national defense and security of the province.

The Krong Pach Thuong Reservoir Project Phase 2 has an investment capital of VND 1,120 billion, started in July 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2026. During this phase, the project continues to invest in the construction and completion of the remaining irrigation canal system to effectively exploit water resources and works of the Krong Pach Thuong Reservoir Project Phase 1 to provide irrigation water for 12,750 hectares of cultivated land, creating a water source for daily life, livestock farming, etc.

The project has a land area of ​​up to 3,174 hectares and relocates and resettles about 800 households, of which 725 households are for the Krong Pach Thuong reservoir project and 76 households are for the Ea Rot reservoir project.

Krong Pach Thuong Reservoir is a multi-purpose irrigation project, not only a reservoir, but also a tool to regulate water resources for agriculture, daily life and protect people from weather and natural disasters that are becoming increasingly complex and extreme.

At the same time, this is a highly technical and complex project, with a total investment of 5,536 billion VND in two phases. The volume of site clearance work is large, covering a wide area in 3 districts, with about 800 households affected and a very large area of ​​land occupied.

However, overcoming difficulties and challenges in the implementation process, the leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment focused on directing units to carry out tasks to ensure quality and progress; mobilized a team of leading scientists and experts; listened to criticism, conducted in-depth and specialized research; closely coordinated with the People's Committee of Dak Lak province to promptly remove difficulties and obstacles in the implementation and completed.

In the coming time, in order for the completed project to be exploited and used most effectively, becoming a multi-purpose project, a resource to combine local tourism development, and promote the multi-values ​​of the project, Minister Do Duc Duy requested that agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment continue to closely coordinate with units under Dak Lak province to organize the handover, operation, and exploitation of the project in accordance with regulations, ensuring the highest efficiency.

At the same time, the province needs to urgently complete the remaining work of the site clearance component in 2025 to complete the investment and construction work of phase 2 as approved.

In addition, Dak Lak province needs to continue to pay attention to stabilizing production and ensuring the lives of resettled households of the project with the spirit: "The lives of people in the new place must be at least equal to or better than the old place". Strive to have no more poor households in resettlement areas. People are not only allocated residential land, garden land, but also have fertile land, rice land... to stabilize their lives and strive to become rich.

The Upper Krong Pach Reservoir is one of the three largest irrigation projects in Dak Lak province, making a great contribution to promoting agricultural development. After completion, the project will contribute to changing people's lives, contributing to stabilizing water resources for the Central Highlands region in general and the four districts of Ea Kar, Krong Pac, M'Drak, Krong Bong benefiting from this project in particular and playing a very important role in water security.
