In mid-May, we arrived at Ban Chang village, My Thanh commune, just as Mrs. Ban Thi Xuan's family was harvesting cucumbers to deliver to a joint consumption unit. Under the early summer sun, her whole family was busy picking cucumbers, packing, and weighing the products. This was the first year that Mrs. Xuan's family participated in the cucumber growing model under the joint consumption program implemented by the locality. When registering to participate, she was provided with seeds, agricultural materials, fertilizers, and all output products were purchased. "My family grows 500m2 , and at this time we have harvested more than 1 ton of fruit, with an average price of 5,000 to 6,000 VND/kg, which is worth tens of millions of VND," Mrs. Xuan shared.
In 2024, My Thanh commune implemented a cucumber growing model in the form of product consumption linkage with a scale of 10 hectares in 05 villages. This is a new direction to improve the efficiency of agricultural production, linking production with the consumption market. After one year of implementation, the model initially showed clear effectiveness, helping people increase their income.

Mr. La Quang Doan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of My Thanh Commune, said: "This model not only helps people have a stable source of income but also contributes to changing traditional production practices, raising awareness of agricultural production towards commodities, linked to the market. This is a direction suitable to local conditions, helping to gradually improve living standards and sustainably reduce poverty."
Livelihood support programs in the district in the field of livestock farming help people have more opportunities to develop their economy . In 2024, Mr. Nong Van Nguom's household in Khau Cuom village, Sy Binh commune, was supported with two breeding buffaloes from the capital of the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas according to the consumption chain. His family is a poor household, their lives mainly depend on small-scale agricultural production, with unstable income. Since receiving the breeding buffaloes, he has begun to change the way he does business.
“My family is a poor household, life is still difficult. Now that I have been supported with breeding buffaloes, I have more conditions to develop the economy and raise livestock in the long term. If well cared for, the breeding buffaloes will help my family gradually stabilize their lives,” said Mr. Nong Van Nguom.

In 2024, Bach Thong district has integrated resources from national target programs and production development projects to synchronously implement activities to support livelihoods, vocational training and create jobs for rural workers. In particular, the National Target Program (NTP) for sustainable poverty reduction is allocated a total capital of more than 10 billion VND, focusing on supporting livelihoods, production models and improving the capacity of officials working on poverty reduction. In particular, the NTP for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas is allocated more than 86 billion VND to implement projects and sub-projects in the district.
According to statistics, by the end of 2024, the district's poverty rate will decrease by 2.82% compared to 2023, and near-poor households will decrease by 0.87%. This result shows that support policies have initially shown effectiveness, creating a clear change in sustainable poverty reduction in the area./.
