From September 15, tourists will not be allowed to bring plastic bags and disposable plastic items to the islands of Co To district.

This is a mandatory requirement to reduce plastic waste and marine pollution, the People's Committee of Co To island district informed on September 12.

In addition, all administrative agencies, schools, markets, service businesses, and fishing vessels on the island district are not allowed to use plastic bags or disposable plastic items.

To implement this regulation, the district police and border guards will set up checkpoints at Co To port. Transport units, passenger ships, tourism services, and accommodation establishments will both disseminate the regulation and replace plastic products with environmentally friendly products.

Mr. Nguyen Hai Linh, Head of the Department of Culture, Information and Tourism of Co To district, said that since August 2022, the island district has promoted and encouraged tourists and residents not to use plastic bags and disposable plastic items, with positive results. The marine environment in Co To has improved, and some rare animals such as turtles, green sea turtles, and dolphins have returned to the island to live. People's awareness of replacing environmentally friendly items is also getting better.

In the first 9 months of 2023, Co To island district welcomed 298,000 visitors, equal to 152% over the same period last year.

This time is considered the best season to travel to Co To because the sea is beautiful, the weather is cool, the service prices and customer care are also better and more thoughtful than in the summer. According to the People's Committee of Co To district, after the September 2nd holiday, the prices of all types of tourism services in Co To such as accommodation, food, and tours have decreased by 30-50%.
