A survey conducted by digital travel platform Agoda found that 74% of Vietnamese travelers want more sustainable travel experiences.

Survey respondents highlighted that financial incentives, a variety of sustainable travel packages and clear guidance on how to travel sustainably and responsibly play an important role in motivating guests to choose this type of tourism for future trips.

The survey also asked about what factors influence sustainable travel decisions. In most markets, financial incentives were rated highest. On average, 45% of respondents highlighted incentives such as discounts as important. This was particularly high in markets such as Singapore (58%), Taiwan (54%) and Indonesia (47%).

The second most popular driver of sustainable tourism is the popularity of sustainable tourism packages. These packages offer a range of activities, from hiking in nature reserves to supporting local community projects, and are particularly popular with visitors from the Philippines (28%), Vietnam (24%), and Thailand (23%). The remaining factors in the top five include clear guidance on how to practice responsible sustainable tourism (#3),education and awareness of environmental impacts (#4), and sustainable policies by local governments (#5).

In Vietnam, financial incentives (37%) and the availability of more sustainable travel packages (24%) were the top two factors driving sustainable tourism, accounting for more than half of all responses. The remaining three factors in the top five were increased education and awareness of environmental impacts (13%), clear guidance on how to practice responsible sustainable tourism (11%), as well as government policies or incentives to promote more sustainable forms of tourism (9%).

When asked about their preferred sustainable travel activities, Vietnamese travelers prioritized supporting local communities and conservation projects (30%), recycling and reducing waste (19%), and choosing accommodation with sustainability certification (15%).
