The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is seeking comments on a draft circular promulgating a list of pesticides permitted for use in Vietnam and a list of pesticides banned from use in Vietnam.
According to the draft, the list of pesticides allowed for use in Vietnam has 2,222 active ingredients with 5,681 trade names (drug names - PV). Compared to current regulations, the draft has 12 more active ingredients with 431 trade names.
Of which, pesticides have 895 active ingredients with 2,194 trade names; fungicides have 840 active ingredients with 1,957 trade names; herbicides have 312 active ingredients with 994 trade names;
Rat poison has 9 active ingredients with 73 trade names; growth regulator has 67 active ingredients with 206 trade names; insect attractant has 8 active ingredients with 8 trade names; snail killer has 31 active ingredients with 161 trade names,...
It is expected that the list of banned pesticides in Vietnam will retain 31 active ingredients such as 2.4.5 T, captan, captafol, methamidophos, aldrin, carbofuran, chlordane, methyl parathion, parathion ethyl, BHC, lindane...
Notably, the draft stipulates that pesticides containing the active ingredient carbosulfan (belonging to the pesticide group) will not be imported, will only be produced for 3 months, and will be traded and used for 2 years from the effective date of this circular.
Pesticides containing the active ingredient benfuracarb (belonging to the pesticide group) can only be manufactured and imported for 3 months and traded and used for 1 year from the effective date of this circular.
The new draft circular shows that the active ingredient benfuracarb has been registered by 2 businesses with 4 drug names including Fucarb 20EC, Oncol5GR, 20EC, 25WP5GR.
As for the active ingredients carbosulfan and carbosulfan 200 g/1 + chlorfluazuron 50 g/1, 9 businesses have registered with 13 trade names including Sulfaron 250EC, Vifu-super 5GR, Dofacar 5GR, Amitage200EC, Carbosan25EC...
From 2017 to 2023, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has reviewed and removed from the list of pesticides allowed for use in Vietnam 14 active ingredients of pesticides such as carbendazim, thiophanate methyl, benomyl, paraquat, 2,4D, acephate, diazinon, malathion, chlorpyrifos ethyl, fipronil, glyphosate... (this number includes 1,706 trade names and 1,265 active ingredient contents).
These are pesticides that pose a high risk to human health, livestock and the environment.
