Ecotourism from fruit-growing regions

As one of the province's major fruit-growing regions, with 12,500 hectares, Yen Chau is famous for its distinctive products such as mangoes, bananas, plums, and pears. Beyond the value of agricultural products, many orchards combine their operations with agricultural, ecological, and community-based tourism models to promote their brands; gradually forming agricultural tourism tours that include visits to fruit orchards and experiences of traditional community culture.

Tourists capture beautiful moments with pear blossoms in Phiêng Khoài commune, Yên Châu district.

Kha Village, located right next to National Highway 6, boasts a peaceful atmosphere with the winding Vat stream and the shade of ancient mango and tamarind trees. Notably, the village preserves traditional stilt houses and unique cultural features of the Thai ethnic minority. In recent years, Kha Village has been chosen as the annual venue for the Yen Chau Mango Festival, attracting tourists to visit, experience, and learn about the local culture.

Mr. Pham Duc Long, Vice Chairman of the Yen Chau District People's Committee, said: The District People's Committee has issued a project "Developing a rural tourism model in Kha village, Sapp Vat commune, giai đoạn 2022-2025", allocating over 13 billion VND and calling for additional resources to build a community tourism village. The district has directed Sapp Vat commune to propagate and mobilize the people to preserve and protect traditional stilt house architecture, not to cut down ancient mango trees; to encourage households to allocate land outside residential areas to relocate livestock pens; to regularly clean the roads in the village, plant flowers along the roads, ensuring a green, clean, and beautiful environment. At the same time, it has organized trips for households to visit exemplary tourism models in some localities; and provided training on tourism knowledge.

The village of Bản Khá has received investment for the construction of a concrete bridge over the stream, a cultural center, a parking lot, and a concrete main road. Households in the village have formed a cooperative; families have renovated their homes into homestays, opened restaurants serving ethnic cuisine , and engaged in weaving, embroidering traditional scarves, and handcrafted rattan and bamboo crafts; two performing arts groups have been established to regularly perform folk songs and dances for tourists.

Ms. Quang Thi Nhat, Director of the Kha Village Rural Tourism Cooperative, shared: "The members of the cooperative have invested in caring for ancient, round-fruited mango orchards, attracting tourists to experience picking and enjoying fresh, delicious mangoes right in the orchard and buying them as gifts. Thanks to this, there's no need to worry about the market for the mangoes, bringing in a stable income."

In Phieng Khoai, the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet, from Con Huot village, Phieng Khoai commune, owns over 3 hectares of plum and pear trees. For the past four years, during the plum and pear blossom season or the fruit ripening season, many tourists have come to experience the area. Ms. Nguyet happily stated: "Our family grows plums and pears using safe, organic methods. To date, our products have been recognized as OCOP 3 and 4-star. Besides selling the fruit, we combine it with tourism, promoting our products and opening our orchards to tourists for sightseeing, taking photos, admiring the flowers, and harvesting fruit. This has brought our family an income of nearly 1.5 billion VND per year."

Experiential activities and fruit tasting at the Yen Chau Mango Festival 2025.

In recent years, Yen Chau has made its mark with events and festivals associated with the flower and fruit seasons in the localities, such as the Mango Festival, Plum Harvesting Festival, and the "Spring Garden Border Cross-Country Race"... These events serve both as opportunities to promote agricultural products and to showcase the potential and strengths of the district's tourism. Many agricultural and rural tourism models have proven effective, attracting tourists. Fruit orchards are interconnected to form destinations along the experiential journey.

Ms. Le Thi Le, a tourist from Hung Yen, said: "My family and I visited Yen Chau for the first time, coinciding with the district's Mango and Plum Picking Festival. We had the opportunity to experience picking ripe red plums ourselves and enjoying the delicious and unique round mangoes right in the orchard. I will definitely recommend this place to my friends and come back again."

The model of fruit tree cultivation combined with the development of agricultural and ecotourism not only brings economic benefits but also preserves and promotes the cultural and natural values of the locality. With its many potentials, in the future, Yen Chau will become an attractive agricultural and ecotourism destination, attracting more and more tourists, contributing to maintaining the brand of local fruits and improving the lives of ethnic minorities.
