Potential for real estate development for rent, resort and tourism
Digital nomad is a term that describes remote workers, who often use technology and the internet to do their work from any location in the world . They are often not tied to a fixed office and instead, take advantage of the flexibility of technology to work from different places, even while traveling.
This group of people often use laptops, mobile phones and other online tools to do their work, including content writing, web development, online marketing, graphic design... They often take advantage of public services, coffee shops, shared workspaces or rent houses to create a working environment that suits them where they are.
The digital nomad lifestyle allows them to explore different places around the world, enjoy diverse cultures, and experience new ways of life. However, there are also challenges such as time management, maintaining focus in a new environment, and balancing work and personal life.
According to the Executive Nomad Index recently released by Savills to evaluate the 20 most popular destinations for Digital nomads, all of these destinations have visa programs for Digital nomads or visas with similar purposes.
Digital normad has been a popular working trend in recent years.
For example, in the US and European countries, many cities are part of a large economic bloc, allowing people to move freely to live and work. The cities in the rankings all have favorable climates year-round, high quality of life and a vibrant real estate market.
Commenting on the ranking, Swapnil Pillai, Associate Director, Savills Research, Middle East, said: “Dubai’s rapidly growing financial services and fintech sectors, coupled with its tax-free environment and high quality of life, are proving to be a strong draw for digital nomads.”
Perhaps for that reason, Dubai also ranks highly for both transport and online connectivity. Dubai’s main airport is the world’s largest for international passenger traffic. Meanwhile, Dubai is continually investing in its digital infrastructure – with the UAE now boasting the fastest internet speeds in the world.
Ranked second in Savills's rankings is Malaga (Spain), with the advantage of cheaper rental costs compared to other locations, which has attracted many people in the Digital nomad group to work here. To attract this group, Spain launched a separate visa for Digital nomads in 2022, attracting intellectual workers with jobs that can be done remotely. The presence of famous large corporations such as Google in Malaga has made this city even more attractive.

“Digital nomads looking for a home often want a ready-to-move-in apartment, including furniture and internet,” said José Felix Perez-Peña, head of Savills Andalucia. “We are seeing a lot of startups moving to the city, but the supply of prime office and residential real estate is quite limited. This can be seen as an opportunity for real estate developers in this segment.”
According to Mr. Paul Tostevin, Director of Savills World Research, "Destinations with more resort elements have been included in the voting and evaluation list, led by Barbados and Algarve in 6th and 9th place. For some, this helps them take advantage of their second home to become a place where they can live all year round and prolong the peak season of the real estate market here."
Need to seize the opportunity soon
Realizing the potential of the Digital norm, many countries around the world, especially in regions like Southeast Asia, have started adopting policies and measures to tap into the potential of remote workers.
Some countries have created special visas for digital nomads, allowing them to stay and work remotely for longer periods of time. They have also invested heavily in infrastructure, including fast and stable internet, to ensure that digital nomads can work effectively from anywhere.
In addition, establishing a Digital nomad community or organizing events and workshops specifically for them. This helps create a friendly environment and provides opportunities for this group of workers to meet and exchange experiences.
Many countries offer support services to Digital Nomads, including visa guidance, tax advice, and cultural and language support services to help them better adapt to the local environment. Countries also often promote their culture and tourism to attract Digital Nomads.
Vietnam is one of the places that is considered to have a lot of potential to attract the Digital normad group.
Cultural events, festivals and opportunities to explore the country are created to give them diverse and interesting experiences. These measures help countries to exploit the potential of this group, creating economic and social benefits.
In Vietnam, according to Savills experts, the Digital nomad trend is also becoming increasingly popular and attracting attention from many people. There are a number of factors that are influencing the development of this trend in the country. That is, the development of information technology and the internet in Vietnam has created opportunities for many people to work remotely.
Some people also decide to become digital nomads in Vietnam due to the relatively low cost of living compared to other developed countries. The business environment is also changing and supporting many startups and technology companies, making it convenient for remote workers. In addition, Vietnam has beautiful landscapes and diverse culture, attracting many people who want to combine work with exploring the country.
However, joining the Digital nomad community also faces some challenges in Vietnam such as visa issues. Currently, Vietnam still does not have a visa specifically for the Digital nomad trend.
Many opinions also say that we should have changes to catch up with the world trend, thereby attracting a large number of workers in this labor group from all over the world. From there, it contributes to promoting the image of Vietnam through this labor group. At the same time, it develops many different industries and services of the economy, not just real estate.
