At the meeting, Minister Bui Thanh Son welcomed Minister of State Tsuji Kiyoto to visit Vietnam and attend the OECD-Southeast Asia Ministerial Forum at a time when the two countries are organizing activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.
Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his delight at the remarkable development of the Vietnam-Japan Extensive Strategic Partnership, with political trust continuing to be consolidated through regular exchanges at high and all levels; and assessed that the recent official visit to Vietnam by Crown Prince Akishino and Princess of Japan contributed to strengthening the affection and mutual understanding between the people of the two countries.

Along with that, cooperation between ministries, sectors, localities, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries continued to be promoted and achieved many positive results. In particular, the two sides organized nearly 500 meaningful and practical activities on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that State Secretary Tsuji Kiyoto and the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs closely coordinate to promote the Vietnam-Japan relationship to a new height through increasing high-level exchanges and contacts, preparing well for visits by senior leaders in the coming time; strengthening cooperation between ministries, branches and localities of the two countries; continuing to maintain economic cooperation, investment, ODA; promoting cooperation in new areas such as green transformation, digital transformation, emission reduction, etc.
Appreciating Japan for granting e-visas to Vietnamese citizens participating in package tours, Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that Japan continue to simplify visa procedures for Vietnamese citizens entering Japan, contributing to enhancing people-to-people exchange and tourism cooperation between the two countries.
Japanese Foreign Minister Tsuji Kiyoto thanked the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the warm welcome given to Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko during his visit to Vietnam in October 2023; affirmed that the two countries share many common interests; emphasized that high-level visits and commemorative events have created new momentum to promote the friendship between the two countries, and the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to closely coordinate to successfully prepare for high-level and all-level visits and contacts in the coming time.
Emphasizing that Vietnam's stability and development are important to the region and Japan, State Minister Tsuji affirmed that Japan will continue to support Vietnam in its industrialization and modernization, and create favorable conditions for the community of nearly 500,000 Vietnamese people living, studying and working in Japan.
Regarding international and regional issues, Minister Bui Thanh Son and Minister of State Tsuji Kiyoto agreed to strengthen cooperation between the two countries at multilateral forums such as OECD, ASEAN, etc.
Minister of State Tsuji Kiyoto highly appreciated the cooperation between Vietnam and the OECD as well as Vietnam’s initiatives and efforts as Co-Chair of the OECD’s Southeast Asia Program; expressed his hope that Vietnam will continue to promote its role in promoting ASEAN-Japan cooperation in the coming time.
