At Battle of the Bull, Duong Quoc Hoang had an impressive journey. In the double qualifying round, the Vietnamese player defeated Josh Roberts 9-6, Albert Januarta 9-7, Antonis Kakaris 9-7.
In the knockout round, Hoang "star" maintained his stable performance to defeat Lee Van Corteza 9-0. This result brought him to the round of 16 against Fedor Gorst, the world's number 1 player.
This time, the Vietnamese player was both good and lucky as his opponent made many mistakes. Thanks to that, he created a shock when he won 9-6 to get a ticket to the quarter-finals.
Here he continued to defeat Alex Kakaris 9-7 to enter the semi-finals. But Duong Quoc Hoang's journey also ended here, when he could not overcome Johann Chua (score 5-11).
Johann Chua is in the final and will face Shane Van Boening for the championship. Battle of the Bull is an annual 9-ball pool tournament, held in Roanoke, Virginia, USA. This year's tournament is the third edition, bringing together 128 of the world's top players, competing from August 14 to 17.
The total prize pool for Battle of the Bull is $100,000. Players compete in a double qualifying round, with 32 players advancing to the knockout round.
Fedor Gorst – close friend of Duong Quoc Hoang
Fedor Gorst is a Russian-American player, currently world number 1 in the 9-ball pool category of billiards. Therefore, Duong Quoc Hoang's victory in this tournament was an unexpected success.
Not only are they rivals on the billiards table, Duong Quoc Hoang also maintains a close relationship with Fedor Gorst in real life. Both often post satirical and joking posts to each other on Facebook.
Not stopping there, Fedor Gorst once strongly condemned the World Pool Association (WPA) and the Asian Billiards Sports Association (ACBS), when they banned Vietnamese players from competing for 6 months.
