A hard time

In the years after liberation, Duy Xuyen people quickly carried out the work of rebuilding and developing their homeland. Due to the fallow fields, landmines and no irrigation water, people always faced food shortages. In the early years, about 60% of households had to regularly receive rice to relieve hunger.

“Emerging from the fires of war and living in peace , all people devoted their efforts to rebuilding their homeland and villages. They reclaimed land, turned it into arable land, and built embankments and dams to bring water in. In no time, green covered the villages and fields,” said Mr. Muoi.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Thu - Standing Deputy Secretary of Duy Son Commune Party Committee said that after liberation, the local economy was really difficult. Fields and houses were desolate, the transportation system and infrastructure were almost non-existent, the poverty rate was over 70%.

But, in harmony with the work of rebuilding and healing the wounds of war across the country, the Party Committee, government and people of Duy Son have rebuilt their homeland with determination, perseverance and a spirit of victory.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Manh - Standing Deputy Secretary of Duy Xuyen District Party Committee, in the 80s and 90s of the last century, from hardship, the locality made efforts to rise up, affirming itself as the leading flag in the movement to build agricultural cooperative models nationwide with typical units such as Duy Phuoc, Duy Son, Duy Trinh, Duy Hoa...

In particular, thanks to its outstanding achievements in agricultural production, poverty reduction, and cooperative economic development, Duy Hoa commune was awarded the title of hero in the renovation period for the third time. This is not only an honor for the Party Committee, government, and people of Duy Hoa, but also a pride for the people and land of Duy Xuyen, a hero in wartime and a hero in peacetime.

Constantly evolving

Mr. Dang Huu Phuc - Vice Chairman of Duy Xuyen District People's Committee said that 10 years ago, the locality focused on developing industrial clusters to solve the problem of rural labor.

However, in recent years, Duy Xuyen has gradually shifted to the tourism and service sector, with the goal of green and sustainable development, with the highlight being the My Son World Cultural Heritage.

Thanks to the right economic restructuring, Duy Xuyen's average economic growth rate in 2024 will reach 9.8%. The total state budget revenue in the district in 2024 will reach 1,944 billion VND, an increase of 39% compared to the estimate assigned by the Provincial People's Council.

According to Mr. Phuc, to promote economic development, Duy Xuyen has recently focused resources on investing in synchronous infrastructure construction, with special attention paid to the inter-district and inter-regional transportation system.

“In the 15-year journey of building new rural areas and developing urban areas, Duy Xuyen people have voluntarily donated more than 335,000m2 of land and more than 270,000 working days. Thereby, contributing to Duy Xuyen reaching the finish line of a new rural district in 2020 and basically completing the goal of reaching the standards of an advanced new rural district by April 2025,” said Mr. Phuc.

Notably, in recent years, Duy Xuyen's education sector has made many impressions; notably, all four high schools in the district, including Sao Nam, Nguyen Hien, Ho Nghinh, and Le Hong Phong, have continuously led in provincial-level excellent student competitions. Sao Nam High School in particular has won first prize in the 12th grade excellent student competition in Quang Nam province for four consecutive years (2022 - 2025).

Duy Xuyen district's health sector is constantly building and innovating in the direction of "strong general practice, deep specialization" with many advanced and modern techniques deployed at medical examination and treatment facilities, well meeting the health care needs of the people...
