On the night of September 10, information from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that a baby was born safely in the delivery room of the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center. According to the Department of Health, this is the first safe birth in the Con Dao special zone, with both mother and child safe.

It is known that about 3 weeks before, the mother's family had planned to fly to the mainland to give birth at the hospital. But when they heard that there were obstetricians from Hung Vuong Hospital rotating to work at Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center, the family changed their decision and let the mother stay in her hometown to wait for the birth.

On September 10, the mother went into labor and was directly examined by Dr. Huynh Giang Chau of Hung Vuong Hospital and found to have moderate anemia in the high-risk group. Currently, the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center is equipped with a blood bank, so the doctor is confident in ordering the pregnant woman to give birth here, without having to go to the mainland to give birth at the hospital.

At the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center, the mother was directly delivered by Dr. Huynh Giang Chau. The baby was born at 8:10 p.m., weighing 2.9 kg, and was directly cared for by Pediatrician Tran Thi Mai Lien, Children's Hospital 1.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, since the group of doctors took turns working here, daily work reports show that the number of people coming to the center for examination and treatment has increased day by day, 2 to 3 times higher than before, especially there have been cases of complicated emergency surgery to save the patient's life, laparoscopic surgery for appendicitis...

Previously, on September 10, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Vinh Hung, Director of Binh Dan Hospital and Dr. Luong Thanh Tung, Deputy Director and a team of doctors from the general surgery, thoracic - vascular surgery, urology, and anesthesia and resuscitation departments of the hospital flew to Con Dao to directly consult and perform surgery on a young man in critical condition after a traffic accident.

Information from Binh Dan Hospital said that 17-year-old male student NPH was admitted to the hospital on September 9 with multiple injuries. Despite receiving 350ml of packed red blood cells, the patient's condition continued to worsen, with a rapid pulse, decreased hemoglobin index, and a diagnosis of internal bleeding and a risk of hemorrhagic shock if not operated on promptly.

The patient was transferred to open surgery to suture the abdominal wall muscle tear, place a left pleural drain, and remove the left kidney to stop the bleeding.

According to Associate Professor Tran Vinh Hung, this was a case of complex closed abdominal trauma causing internal bleeding. The patient was saved in time thanks to the coordination of multidisciplinary doctors, a fully equipped operating room, and a blood bank.

In addition, the team from Binh Dan Hospital also supported the development of infection control and the establishment of surgical procedures, gradually building sustainable medical resources for the locality.

"This surgery shows the need to improve emergency surgery capacity in remote areas, especially during bad weather, when air transport carries potential risks," said Mr. Hung.

The strengthening and coordination of multi-specialty doctors from central hospitals in the city opens up the way to develop a surgical emergency system right in Con Dao. Similar cases can be performed on-site to take advantage of the golden time for emergency treatment, minimizing risks for patients when having to be transported long distances.
