With an IELTS score of 8.0 and third prize in provincial English proficiency, Luu Minh Tuan became one of the first students in the Semiconductor Technology course at Asia Vietnam.

The recent 4-day, 3-night study trip to Taiwan (China) within the framework of the Taiwan Gateway scholarship organized by Asia Vietnam was not only a short-term international experience, but also an important milestone that helped Tuan better understand his goals and have a specific direction for his future career path.

During the days preparing for the trip, like many students experiencing learning in another place for the first time, Minh Tuan was both excited and worried about entering a completely new environment.

The 4-day, 3-night journey brought about positive changes. Returning from Taiwan (China), Tuan became more proactive in his approach to learning. The student shared that he eagerly awaited the day he would return, not just as a visitor, but as a real student, ready to conquer knowledge at one of the leading semiconductor centers in Asia.

Discipline lesson at 4am at Asia University library, Taiwan (China)

According to Tuan, the biggest change after the trip was the obvious improvement in personal discipline. The male student admitted that before, his daily routine was not scientific , often staying up until 1:30, 2:00 am, or even 3:00 am before going to bed. This is also a common habit among many young people when they have not yet determined a big enough goal to motivate themselves. However, the new environment at Asia University dormitory has created big changes, helping Tuan adjust his lifestyle and focus more on studying.

“When I came to Taiwan (China), everything automatically fell into place. Living in a dormitory environment, I developed the habit of going to bed early and waking up on time to exercise and prepare for the new day,” Tuan said.

But the real turning point came early one morning in the school library. As Tuan entered the quiet space at 4am, he was surprised to find many international students already studying diligently.

That moment made Tuan understand that if he didn't try many times harder, he would easily be left behind.

“The pressure now is no longer limited to scores or tests, but rather to competition for skills and expertise on a global scale,” Tuan shared. Fully aware of the fierce competition in the Semiconductor Technology industry, the male student believes that discipline is no longer an option but a must to be able to keep up with this race.

Reorient your career goals to be more suitable for the future

As a first-year student, the field trip to SPIL (part of ASE Group - a leading unit in semiconductor packaging and testing) within the framework of the study trip was pivotal in helping Tuan decode his future major.

The frank sharing from experts at SPIL about career advancement, salary and strict requirements of the profession helped male students have a more realistic view.

“Previously, I often imagined myself working in management and supervisory positions. But after directly observing a professional working environment, I realized that I was completely capable and wanted to directly participate in the research and production (R&D) process,” Tuan shared about the turning point in his thinking.

Tuan’s maturity in thinking is also reflected in his perspective on technology security. Instead of being disappointed when not being able to visit core production lines, Tuan understands and respects these strict regulations as an inevitable part of the billion-dollar industry.

Learn and connect from international experiences

In addition to the beneficial professional experiences, the trip also brought Tuan profound lessons about life attitude. During the welcome party, the conversation with Taiwanese (Chinese) professors left him with a particularly strong impression.

“Despite holding high positions and possessing extensive knowledge, the teachers always show curiosity, desire to learn about Vietnamese culture and constantly learn. That teaches me a valuable lesson about humility and the spirit of progress,” Tuan shared.

For Tuan, Asia University's thoughtfulness is reflected in the smallest things, from fully preparing dormitory supplies to the dedicated care of teachers, helping Vietnamese students clearly feel the respect and enthusiastic welcome.

During the trip, the group of students had the opportunity to experience the modern train system and the dynamic lifestyle of Taiwan (China), as well as overcome unexpected situations together such as lost belongings or a friend being slightly ill. It was those moments of support and sharing that became memorable memories, connecting the members and leaving each person with a sense of familiarity and attachment after the journey.

“This trip helps me feel more secure about the upcoming two years of transitional study. I hope that when I officially go to Taiwan to study, I will become a more mature, hard-working and open-minded version of myself, so that my family and school can be proud,” Tuan shared.

Closing the meaningful learning journey, Luu Minh Tuan returned with a spirit of discipline, confidence and new energy. The experiences in Taiwan (China) not only helped him consolidate his knowledge and skills but also fostered a proactive spirit, ready to seize opportunities and constantly strive to go further in the field of Semiconductor Technology that he pursues.

Asia Vietnam is an international joint university training program betweenFPT University, FPT Corporation and Asia University, Taiwan (China) with majors including: Semiconductor Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Business Administration, Finance. Students studying the program will have 2 years of study in Vietnam and 2 years of study at Asia University, Taiwan (China).

The study trip to Taiwan is for students who have received the Taiwan Gateway scholarship (worth 15 million VND) from Asia Vietnam. This is an opportunity for students to approach the learning environment at Asia University - where they will study the last 2 years of the joint program.
