It can be seen that VAR technology has greatly supported the referee team in the process of managing matches in the V-League. VAR also brings trust in fairness from football teams as well as the media and fans.
Through the process of sending reports to FIFA after each match using VAR, Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF), the V-League Organizing Committee and the Referee Board of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) also assessed that VAR referees have gradually become familiar with this modern technology. From there, VPF has proposed that FIFA consider applying VAR technology to more important matches.

After carefully reviewing the entire process of applying VAR technology in Vietnam, this morning (August 9), FIFA officially approved the request from VPF. This is considered good news for VPF and the VFF Referee Board as the process of applying VAR technology in Vietnam is being recognized and well evaluated by FIFA.
The match selected to apply VAR technology this time is the confrontation between Viettel Club (32 points) and Hanoi Police Club (34 points), in round 6 of phase 2 of V-League 2023. This is a decisive match in the race to the V-League 2023 championship, when the 3 leading teams, Hanoi Police Club, Hanoi Club (32 points) and Viettel Club, are only 2 points apart.
The referees on duty at the match between Viettel Club and Hanoi Police Club include: main referee Ngo Duy Lan, assistant referees: Nguyen Trung Hau, Nguyen Trung Viet, table referee Vu Nguyen Vu. VAR referee is Mr. Duong Huu Phuc, assistant referee VAR is Mr. Mai Xuan Hung.
Quang Hai (red shirt) and his teammates have a chance to win the 2023 V-League championship 1 round early if they beat Viettel Club.
VAR technology was first officially applied in V-League in the match between Viettel Club and Ha Tinh Club (round 3, phase 2). In round 4, VAR continued to be used in the match between Hanoi Club and Hai Phong Club. In round 5, phase 2, the match between Hai Phong Club and Nam Dinh Club was the third time VAR technology was applied.
According to initial recommendations from FIFA, in the initial phase of applying VAR technology, the tournament organizers should choose matches that are less competitive and do not directly affect the championship or relegation race, in order to help the referee team get used to how to conduct a match with VAR. In the response document agreeing to use VAR in the match between Viettel Club and Hanoi Police Club, FIFA once again reiterated this.
"You are licensed. But as we have advised from the beginning, within 3 years after being licensed, the use of VAR in each match must still be under the supervision and licensing of FIFA. If VAR is used in matches that have not been licensed, the federation will have its license revoked immediately," FIFA said.
