Vietnam Women's Futsal: Determined to win all group stage

With two wins and an early ticket to the quarterfinals, the confrontation between the Vietnamese women's futsal team and Iran is only to determine the top spot in Group B. With a score difference of 8/3 compared to 4/1, Vietnam only needs a draw to win the group.

Both are determined to win

According to the rules, the first team in Group B will meet the second team in Group C, and the second team in Group B will meet the second team in Group A in the quarterfinals. If ranked second in Group B, the Vietnamese women's futsal team (ranked 11th in the world ) will only meet an opponent with a lower FIFA ranking, Taiwan (ranked 18th in the world) - the team ranked second in Group A after beating Australia 1-0 in the final round on the evening of May 10. If ranked first in Group B, Vietnam will meet one of two very strong opponents capable of ranking second in Group C, Thailand (ranked 5th in the world) or Japan (ranked 10th in the world).

However, the Vietnamese team is not focusing on which opponent they will face in the quarterfinals. Because if they advance, Vietnam will have to face Thailand or Japan in the semi-finals. This is also the match that will decide the official ticket to the 2025 Women's Futsal World Cup at the end of the year. Therefore, playing with all their might against strong opponent Iran (ranked 9th in the world) is a good way for Vietnamese futsal to practice for the ticket to the 2025 Women's Futsal World Cup, which is reserved for the top 3 teams of the tournament.

"We will analyze the match with Iran and decide which tactic is most suitable. Our goal is to win all three group stage matches," coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang shared.

Despite highly appreciating the Vietnamese women's futsal team, coach Foruzan Solymani also affirmed that Iran will win. Ms. Foruzan said: "We will continue to face challenges when meeting the Vietnamese women's futsal team, a team that is very difficult to defeat. However, I believe in my players and hope to win."

Perfect your soccer skills

The Vietnamese girls have been playing better and better in the tournament. After a narrow 5-3 win over Hong Kong in the opening match, they defeated the Philippines 3-0 in the second match thanks to better attacking play.

"We applied high pressure from the beginning and did not allow the Philippines to launch an attack. After that, we controlled the match more and focused on scoring goals," coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang explained.

But Iran are a different beast. In addition to being ranked higher, Iran are also two-time Asian champions. At the 2018 AFC Women’s Futsal Championship, Iran defeated Vietnam 5-0 in the semi-finals. In 2024, they drew 2-2 with Vietnam in a friendly in China. So this rematch will not be easy for either team.

Despite having won a ticket to the quarter-finals, the Vietnamese women's futsal team is still actively practicing to perfect their moves in preparation for the upcoming important matches. Having a memorable birthday at the tournament, captain Thanh Hang is even more determined when saying: "The whole team has gone through many high-intensity training sessions, friendly matches with strong teams and has made appropriate tactical adjustments to be ready to face strong opponents on the continent. Most importantly, the team's spirit is very good and they are eager to win a ticket to the World Cup."
