Nearly 103,000 candidates in Hanoi entered the first exam, parents were more nervous than their children.

This morning (June 7), nearly 103,000 candidates entered the first exam - Literature in the 2025 public 10th grade exam in Hanoi.

According to statistics from the Department of Education and Training on the day of registration for the 10th grade entrance exam in 2025, the number of candidates present was 102,365 out of a total of 102,860 students registered for the exam, with 495 candidates absent.

While students entered the exam room with a ready mindset, tens of thousands of parents outside were nervous and restless. For them, this exam was not only a race for their children, but also a journey full of pressure, hope and sleepless nights.

Candidates ready for the first exam

Mr. Quoc Tuan (Dai Tu district, Hanoi ) is one such parent. His stress is doubled not only because his child is taking the exam, but also because he has two twins taking the exam this year. "Last night, my wife and I probably only slept for one or two hours. Every time I lay down, I would wake up and check my phone to check the time because I was afraid I would forget to take my child to the exam," he shared while looking towards the school gate.

For Mr. Tuan, this exam not only means passing an important academic milestone, but also an economic problem for the whole family. He has prepared backup plans in case his children do not pass their first choice - Dong Da High School. However, he still places all his hopes on this public school, partly because of the learning environment, and more importantly because of the tuition-free policy - which is of great significance in the context of the family having to raise two children studying at the same time.

"I spend a lot of money on my children. Each tutoring session is 900,000 VND, and extra classes are 600,000 VND. That's a total of 4 sessions/week. I also let my children learn English at a center. In total, I spend more than 20 million VND per month on tuition for the two children. We take turns taking them to and from school, which is both time-consuming and tiring. But what worries me most is seeing my children not having a single day off during the school year. Since Tet, my children have been studying until 2-3 am every day, almost like a habit. It's hard for them, but I feel sorry for them!", Mr. Tuan said, his eyes silent amid the sound of car horns and hurried footsteps outside the exam location.

Mr. Tuan’s feelings were not unique. Many other parents had the same feeling - standing and waiting under the hot sun, feeling as if they were in the exam room with their children. Some huddled under the trees, others gathered in small groups to chat to dispel their nervousness. But then, as soon as they heard the bell signaling the start of the exam, all eyes immediately turned towards the school gate, as a natural reflex of love and expectation.

This afternoon (June 7), candidates will continue to take the Foreign Language exam for 60 minutes. Tomorrow morning (June 8), they will take the final exam - Mathematics, with a time limit of 120 minutes. For parents like Mr. Tuan, the exam only truly ends when the school gate opens and their children smile because they have done their best.
