Nearly 590 million adults are living with diabetes

(Dan Tri) - According to statistics from the International Diabetes Federation, nearly 590 million adults worldwide are living with diabetes, a number expected to increase to 853 million by 2050.

On November 15, the Vietnam Association of Endocrinology and Diabetes (VADE) hosted the 23rd Conference of the Federation of Southeast Asian Endocrine Societies.

This year's conference is organized with the theme: Endocrine diseases, diabetes, metabolic disorders and digital technology .

The 23rd Conference of the Federation of Southeast Asian Endocrine Societies was held on November 15 in Da Nang (Photo: Cong Binh).

This is the most prestigious scientific event in Southeast Asia in the field of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolic Disorders, held every 2 years, rotating among the federation members.

The conference was organized by VADE in collaboration with the Federation of Southeast Asian Endocrine Societies (AFES) with more than 270 reports and nearly 100 international reporters.

The conference gathered more than 500 international delegates and more than 1,200 domestic delegates, including professors, doctors, scientists and leading experts in the region and the world such as the United States, Germany, Italy, France, Australia, India, Bangladesh, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia...

According to statistics from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), there are nearly 590 million adults in the world living with diabetes, a number expected to increase to 853 million by 2050.

In Vietnam, the prevalence of diabetes and metabolic disorders has tripled over the past 20 years, with an estimated more than 5.7 million adults suffering from the disease, of which nearly half are undiagnosed.

Along with that, thyroid diseases, obesity, lipid disorders and metabolic syndrome are increasingly common, creating a great burden on the health system and society.

In that context, the AFES 2025 conference is organized with the aim of enhancing regional cooperation, sharing knowledge and updating the latest advances in diagnosis, treatment and management of endocrine-metabolic diseases, promoting the application of digital technology in modern medicine.

The conference focused on exploiting the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud Computing to improve the efficiency of management, prevention and patient healthcare.

Dr. Tran Huu Dang, President of the Federation of Southeast Asian Endocrine Societies, President of the Vietnam Endocrine and Diabetes Association, said that AFES 2025 is not only a place to meet and share expertise, but also a bridge for cooperation between countries in the region.

“We expect this year's conference to contribute to promoting scientific research, training specialized human resources, and applying technological achievements to improve the quality of health care for Southeast Asian people in the digital age,” said Dr. Tran Huu Dang.

Through the AFES 2025 conference, the Organizing Committee hopes to build a foundation for sustainable cooperation between countries in the Southeast Asian region, affirming Vietnam's pioneering role in the field of Endocrinology - Diabetes, contributing to improving health and quality of life for the community in the era of digital transformation of medicine.
