Removing a cockroach that crawled into the ear of a 12-year-old girl in Nghi Xuan

Doctors at Nghi Xuan District Medical Center (Ha Tinh) have successfully removed a live cockroach that had crawled into the ear of a 12-year-old girl.

At around 8:30 a.m. on May 17, Nghi Xuan District Medical Center admitted a female patient, Nguyen Hai H. (born in 2011, residing in Xuan My Commune, Nghi Xuan District) with ear pain, ear discharge, and headache. Through endoscopy, the doctor discovered a live cockroach in the patient's ear.

Doctors at Nghi Xuan District Medical Center used specialized methods and tools to safely remove the cockroach, clean the outer ear canal, and use topical antibiotic ear drops.

Doctor Nguyen Thanh Dat - Interdisciplinary Department (Nghi Xuan District Medical Center) said that in recent months, the unit has received and treated 3 cases of insects entering the ear. When insects such as flies, ants, cockroaches... penetrate deep into the ear, they can puncture the eardrum, causing pain to the patient. If not detected and treated promptly, they can cause otitis media and even ear necrosis. To prevent the risk of insects entering the ear and nose, people should pay attention to hanging mosquito nets before going to bed and regularly cleaning the house, blankets, and mats; proactively spraying insecticides around the living area.
