Coffee price today 5/4/2025: Strong increase again

From the beginning of the year to April 15, Vietnam exported nearly 581,000 tons of coffee, reaching a turnover of 3.3 billion USD. Although output decreased by 13.5% compared to the same period last year, export value increased by 46.8%, reflecting much higher selling prices.

Heat waves and drought are hitting coffee production in Brazil and Vietnam, the world’s two leading coffee exporters. While global production is still expected to rise, the increase is not enough to meet investors’ expectations, especially given the high demand in Europe, the US and China.

Global green coffee exports fell 14.2% in February compared to the same month last year, the International Coffee Organization said. This supply shortage was the main reason why raw coffee prices hit a record in February, surpassing the peak recorded in 1977, when Brazil suffered a severe frost that damaged 70% of the coffee growing area.

World coffee prices today

Coffee prices on the world market increased slightly on both exchanges:

Robusta Coffee (London):

July 2025 delivery: Up 165 USD/ton, to 5,291 USD/ton.

Delivery September 2025: Up 150 USD/ton, to 5,231 USD/ton.

Arabica Coffee (New York):

July 2025 delivery: Up 0.75 cents/lb, to 385.4 cents/lb.

September 2025 delivery: Up 1.2 cents/lb, to 378.7 cents/lb.

Last week, Robusta coffee prices on the London exchange fluctuated strongly with alternating sessions of increase and decrease, but the general trend was downward. As of the end of the week, the price of the contract for delivery in July 2025 had decreased by 124 USD/ton compared to the end of the previous week. Meanwhile, Arabica coffee of the same term was trading at 8,500 USD/ton, up slightly by 20 USD in the most recent session but still 300 USD/ton lower than the end of the previous week.

These fluctuations show that the current coffee market sentiment is still very unpredictable, as global financial factors are strongly affecting prices. Investors continue to closely monitor developments from exchanges and forecasts from major organizations.

Many countries are taking advantage of the high prices to boost exports. In Indonesia, robusta coffee exports from Sumatra reached 379,513 bags in March, up more than five times from the same period last year. In the 2024-2025 crop year, robusta exports from the island will reach 3.7 million bags, up 80% year-on-year.

Colombia also recorded strong growth in coffee exports in the first quarter of the year. Figures showed that the country exported 3.59 million 60-kg bags, up 20% and the highest level in the same period in five years. Germán Bahamón, executive director of the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation, said this was a sign that the country’s coffee industry was regaining its competitive position despite facing many logistical and geopolitical challenges.
