Pepper price today May 31 in the world market

In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) has updated pepper prices of all types traded in the international market on May 30 (local time) as follows:

Indonesia's Lampung black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $7,427/ton. Meanwhile, Muntok white pepper price also remained unchanged from yesterday at $10,125/ton.

Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 price remained unchanged from yesterday at $6,650/mt.

Malaysia's ASTA black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,150/ton. Meanwhile, the country's ASTA white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $11,850/ton.

Prices of all types of pepper in Vietnam remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Of which, the price of 500 gr/l black pepper in Vietnam reached 6,500 USD/ton; 550 gr/l reached 6,600 USD/ton.

Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,500/ton.

According to data from the General Department of Customs, in the first 15 days of May, Vietnam exported 10,596 tons of pepper, earning 74.6 million USD. Compared to the same period last year, the output decreased by 20.3% and the value decreased by 25.1%, showing a clear decline.

From the beginning of the year to May 15, the total pepper export volume reached 84,243 tons, bringing in nearly 583 million USD. Although output decreased by 12.6%, turnover increased by 41.6% thanks to a sharp increase in export prices, reaching an average of 6,920 USD/ton, 62% higher than last year.

Vietnam will remain the largest pepper exporter to the US market, with a volume of nearly 72,500 tons in 2024, accounting for 31% of total turnover. This is also the highest export volume ever to this market. However, the trade relationship is under pressure due to the new US tax policy.

According to experts, Vietnamese pepper is currently facing increasingly fierce competition from products from Brazil and Indonesia, due to lower tariffs applied to these two countries. This is making Vietnamese pepper less advantageous in the race for market share.

In addition, the domestic pepper industry is also facing drought in many key areas. To adapt, localities such as Dak Lak have shifted to organic farming and applied digital technology to improve product quality and enhance traceability.

The global pepper market in the first months of 2025 is quite vibrant, with high consumption demand in the US and China. At the same time, Brazil and Indonesia are also boosting exports, making the competition more fierce.

In this context, developing standard growing areas and promoting links between farmers, cooperatives and businesses are considered key solutions. The goal is to maintain export turnover at 1.5 billion USD in 2025, while maintaining the position of Vietnamese pepper in the world market.
