Shanghai and Thai rubber markets both rose in the final session of the week. However, the overall trend this week is still very bearish due to the impact of the global tariff war.

World market

At the end of the weekend trading session, in Japan, the price of rubber futures for April delivery fell back 0.9% (2.6 yen) to 296.5 yen/kg. In China, rubber prices continued to increase by 1.9% (275 yuan) to 14,700 yuan/ton; while in Thailand, the price of rubber futures for April delivery only increased slightly by 0.2% (0.16 baht/kg) to 72.63 baht/kg.

Compared to the end of last week, rubber prices in China, Japan and Thailand changed by -9.8%, -7.5% and -10.5% respectively. Market sentiment was supported by crude oil prices and concerns about raw material shortages in natural rubber-producing countries, along with growing optimism about China's ability to introduce economic stimulus measures.

Domestically, some businesses still keep rubber prices stable.

In another development, in Cambodia, in the first quarter of 2025, Cambodia's rubber exports brought in more than 116 million USD, up more than 15% compared to the same period in 2024, according to the Phnom Penh Post. In addition, demand for rubber from domestic tire factories also continued to increase steadily.

Of the total, rubber latex exports accounted for 114.93 million USD, while rubber wood brought in 1.33 million USD. In 2024, rubber latex exports reached 100.48 million USD, while rubber wood only reached 355,694 USD.

The report also stated that in the first quarter, the average price of rubber latex was $1,923 per tonne – an increase of $474, or 32.7%, over the same period last year.

Ken Oudomonysinat, general director of Sailun Tire Cambodia – a tire manufacturer based in the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone – told The Post that just a few years ago, Cambodia’s rubber industry was almost entirely dependent on export orders.

However, the increasing presence of international companies building tire factories in Cambodia has gradually changed this trend.

He believes that, due to rising domestic demand, exports could fall by up to half in the near future if no new rubber plantations are planted. However, this decline is likely to be offset by increased exports of finished tyres.

Domestic market

Domestically, some enterprises still keep rubber prices stable. Specifically, Phu Rieng Rubber Company keeps the purchase price of mixed latex at 400 VND/DRC, and liquid latex at 440 VND/TSC.

At Ba Ria Rubber Company, the purchase price of liquid latex is 462 VND/TSC degree/kg (applied to TSC degree from 25 to under 30); DRC coagulated latex (35 - 44%) is 13,600 VND/kg; raw latex ranges from 16,900 - 18,200 VND/kg.
