Jota died after a tragic accident. |
Another day has passed in the atmosphere of mourning for Portuguese football. The Zamora Provincial Forensic Institute (Spain) officially completed the legal procedures and handed over the bodies of Diogo Jota and his younger brother - Andre Silva - to their families this afternoon, according to A Bola .
Two unfortunate brothers died in a tragic traffic accident that occurred in the early morning of July 3 (Spain time), while traveling by car on the A-52 highway. After skidding, the car caught fire and was completely burned, making initial identification very difficult. The identities of both were confirmed through DNA testing and license plate.
Several family members were present in Zamora to personally handle the funeral arrangements. The bodies of the two victims were then transferred to a nearby funeral home, before being returned to their home country of Portugal in the coming days.
Diogo Jota, 28, has just undergone lung surgery. Based on medical advice, he was advised not to fly. So, instead of flying to England to join Liverpool in pre-season, Jota decided to travel by car to the port of Santander - where he would catch a ferry back to the land of fog.
No one expected that what seemed like a cautious trip would become the last journey for him and his 25-year-old brother, Andre Silva.

Diogo Jota is not only one of the best strikers in Portuguese football in recent years, but also an example of professionalism, dedication and gentle personality. His departure is a big shock to the world football community, from Liverpool - where he was playing, to Pacos de Ferreira - where he started his career, and millions of fans around the world.
Andre Silva, Jota's younger brother, is also a promising young player, gradually following in his brother's footsteps.
Now, the two brothers will return home to the grief-stricken arms of their relatives and the Portuguese people - who are looking towards them with all their grief and respect.
