The price of live pigs in the Southern region today is around 52,000-56,000 VND/kg.

* According to Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan, Vice President of the Dong Nai Province Livestock Association, the reason for the continuous decrease in live pig prices in recent times, in addition to purchasing power, is also the high supply of pigs. Small households and farms have reduced their herds due to losses, but large enterprises have increased their herds a lot.

In addition, the epidemic factor is quite common. When some places have an epidemic in livestock, nearby units take advantage of selling to avoid the epidemic. Recently, the number of pigs that have not reached the age of maturity, even sows, has been sold quite a lot, causing the supply in some places to increase.

Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan commented: "Normally, the last months of the year are the peak season for meat consumption, but currently purchasing power is weak and like in 2022, when Tet is approaching, the price of live pigs still does not increase, so this year's market is really difficult to predict.

At present, livestock farmers are not at a loss, but the selling price has fallen close to the cost of raising livestock. Although the price of animal feed has decreased four times since the beginning of the year, it is still very high compared to before."
