Gia Lai issues telegram requesting proactive response to floods

Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Duong Mah Tiep has just signed an official dispatch requesting communes, wards, departments, branches and sectors to proactively respond to heavy rains, floods, landslides, and minimize damage caused by natural disasters.

Accordingly, the Vice Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee requested communes and wards to closely monitor warning bulletins, forecasts and developments of heavy rain, warning information on reservoir regulation, risks of floods, inundation, flash floods, landslides; provide timely and complete information to local authorities and people to proactively prevent.

Proactively organize evacuation and relocation of people from dangerous areas and have plans to support food and necessities for people at evacuation sites, especially in areas with high risk of landslides and areas with high risk of flooding. Prepare forces, vehicles, equipment and necessities according to the "four on-site" motto to be ready to respond to all situations, especially for areas at risk of being isolated when heavy rain occurs.

Organize guarding, support, and guidance to ensure safe traffic for people and vehicles, especially at culverts, spillways, deep flooded areas, areas with fast-flowing water, areas where landslides have occurred or are at risk of landslides; resolutely not allow people and vehicles to pass if safety is not ensured. Prepare forces, materials, and means to be ready to handle incidents, ensuring smooth traffic on main traffic routes when heavy rain occurs. Deploy measures to ensure safety for key works and works under construction; arrange permanent forces to operate and regulate reservoirs and be ready to handle possible situations.

The Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee also requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade to operate and regulate water in hydroelectric and irrigation reservoirs in accordance with regulations to reduce flooding downstream, ensure safety of works and reduce flooding downstream. The Provincial Military Command and the Provincial Police are ready with forces and means to carry out rescue operations when situations arise. Arrange forces and take measures to immediately approach residential areas isolated by floods and landslides to promptly support people, provide relief with food, necessities for people, and evacuate necessary cases to ensure safety.

Relevant departments, branches and sectors, based on their functions and tasks, proactively direct and coordinate with localities to deploy and review response plans to ensure safety and effectiveness in rain and floods and support localities to quickly overcome the consequences of rain and floods, restore education , healthcare, electricity infrastructure, telecommunications, traffic, water supply and drainage, etc. immediately after natural disasters.

According to the forecast of the Gia Lai Province Hydrometeorological Station, from now (November 18) to the morning of November 20, the eastern region of Gia Lai province will have moderate to heavy rain, some places will have very heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall from 100 - 250 mm, some places over 300 mm; some places in the eastern region of Gia Lai will have from 60 - 120 mm, some places over 150 mm. The western region of Gia Lai province will have rain, moderate rain, some places will have heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall from 30 - 50 mm, some places over 70 mm. Warning of the risk of heavy rain in a short time.
