Today, September 27th, rice prices in the Mekong Delta region decreased for both paddy and rice. Paddy prices fell by 200-300 VND/kg, while rice prices decreased by 100 VND/kg. Currently, rice prices are fluctuating around 10,450 – 12,900 VND/kg.

Observations in localities such as Hau Giang and Dong Thap show that the new rice crop is sluggish, with few high-quality grains and little price fluctuation. In Can Tho, the price of the autumn-winter rice crop is stable, and trading is slow. In Ca Mau, the peak harvest season has passed, less rice is available, and trading is subdued.

According to an update from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province, today's rice prices have been adjusted compared to yesterday. On the export market, Vietnam's rice export prices have been adjusted compared to yesterday. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), 100% broken rice is priced at US$454/ton; standard 5% broken rice is priced at US$564/ton, down US$1; and 25% broken rice is priced at US$534/ton, down US$1.

Thai rice export prices fell to a 14-month low this week due to pressure from weak demand and competition from other rice exporting countries, while Indian rice prices rose slightly.

Thai 5% broken rice is quoted at $560 per ton, the lowest level since July 20, 2023, and down from $565 last week.

A Bangkok-based trader said that Indonesia has a demand for rice, but imports it from other exporters at lower prices, adding that the appreciation of the Thai baht also reduces the competitiveness of Thai rice.

5% broken rice from India, the world's leading rice exporter, was quoted at $536 a ton this week, up from $534 last week, the lowest level since mid-January 2024. A Mumbai-based business said, “The strong rupee is pushing prices up, but demand remains sluggish. Buyers are holding back in hope that India will cut export duties.”

According to the Vietnam Food Association, Vietnamese 5% broken rice was offered at $565 per ton on September 26th, down from around $580 the previous week. This decrease, according to a Ho Chi Minh City-based business, is due to competition from other suppliers such as Thailand, Cambodia, and Myanmar.
