Durian price news today June 3, 2025

Lam Dong Province, which has the second largest durian area in the country after Dak Lak, currently owns 25,610 hectares of durian, with an output of over 176,000 tons in 2024. Durian growing areas are mainly concentrated in districts such as Da Huoai, Di Linh, Bao Lam and Dam Rong. Thanks to its high economic value, durian has become a "hot" crop in the Central Highlands and Lam Dong, with the growing area increasing sharply from 13,600 hectares in 2021 to nearly double in just 4 years.

However, since the beginning of 2025, farmers and durian businesses in Lam Dong have been facing many major challenges. Unfavorable weather with unstable alternating periods of rain and sunshine has seriously affected the growth and fruit-bearing ability of durian trees. The fruit set rate has decreased sharply, leading to a decrease in output and a delay in harvest time compared to previous years.

In addition to the risk of crop failure, the durian industry is also under pressure from export markets, especially China - Vietnam's main consumer. China has applied stricter regulations, requiring imported durian to be certified as free of auramine O and cadmium contamination from testing agencies recognized by them. This is a major challenge for the industry. According to data from the General Department of Customs, in the first quarter of 2025, the volume of durian exports decreased by 71.3% and the value decreased by 74% compared to 2024, causing Vietnam's market share in this market to decrease from 42.1% to 28.2%.
