Enhance basic knowledge for vocational school students

GD&TĐ - 2025 is the first year of high school graduation exams according to the 2018 General Education Program, and at the same time, Circular 29/2024 will be implemented.

This forces vocational education centers and colleges with the 9+ system to change their teaching and review strategies so that students can graduate at a higher rate than every year.

Help students fill in their weaknesses

In the 2025 high school graduation exam, the Central College of Transport I had 328 students of the 9+ system taking the exam, of which 327 candidates passed the graduation exam, reaching a rate of 99.7%. Ms. Phung Thi Lien - Deputy Head of the Faculty of Vocational Education , Central College of Transport I said: "The school's 9+ system entrance is quite low, so as soon as the students enrolled, the school surveyed their abilities, classified them into different levels, then listened to their thoughts and aspirations to provide specific guidance, helping students have the right direction.

For students who have lost their basic knowledge, the school inspires their determination and motivates them to study, avoiding discouragement. For example: Students who only get 5-6 points on their test, the school gives them tests that cover the right level of knowledge and gradually increases the difficulty as they progress. Thus, throughout the learning process, students are motivated to strive and not discouraged by the difficulty of the study.

At the same time, the Central College of Transport I selected experienced teachers to teach grade 12, and built topics according to the program distribution of the Ministry of Education and Training; wherever theory is learned, there are topics, exercises, and practice questions. "Entering grade 12, students both study and review for exams," said Ms. Lien.

With similar entry requirements, Lang Son Province Continuing Education Center II, in addition to focusing on expertise, at the beginning of the school year asked parents to accompany the school in maintaining student numbers and review sessions.

Mr. Dau Dinh Phong - Director of the center shared: “In 2025, 100% of the center's students will graduate. This result is thanks to the efforts of teachers, students and parents. For students at risk of failing, the school will develop a separate lesson plan to help them access basic knowledge; exercise questions and practice tests are also at the graduation level. Students with good ability will be taught advanced knowledge to get university and college admission scores, avoiding teaching only basic knowledge that makes students bored and lose interest in studying".

Mr. Phong added that since February 2025, Circular 29/2024 has been implemented, no extra teaching or learning will be allowed. The school has made the most of classroom hours for teaching; on the other hand, through Zalo and Facebook groups, it has supported students with difficult and unclear knowledge.

Take advantage of the limited improvement

To reduce pressure and maintain the 100% high school graduation rate as in 2025, Hoa Sen Vocational College is proactively restructuring the review content towards developing students' qualities and abilities; closely coordinating with experienced teachers to ensure the cultural teaching program closely follows the new requirements of the exam.

Mr. Le Thien Huy - Vice Principal in charge of Hoa Sen Vocational College said: "In addition to inheriting and developing good solutions in the 2024 - 2025 school year, the school will focus on advising students to choose the right exam combination for their abilities, combining career orientation so that they can choose a reasonable learning path, reducing exam pressure.

Before the new school year begins, the school organizes training for teachers to develop electronic lectures, digital learning resources, question banks, and instructional videos on topics so that 12th grade students have study materials and references during the school year. Thus, students can review anytime, anywhere under the supervision and support of subject teachers. In particular, homeroom teachers will advise students on choosing appropriate subjects from the beginning based on their abilities to reduce pressure and increase their chances of passing the graduation exam.

Last school year, Hoa Sen Vocational College followed the 2018 General Education Program closely, helping students build an effective final-year study roadmap. At the same time, the school's Pedagogical Council met early to discuss and set out the focus of review; classifying students' abilities through organizing mock assessment tests.

“The school has built a test bank that closely follows the 2018 General Education Program based on the latest reference questions from the Ministry of Education and Training, focusing on the ability to apply knowledge, differentiate and comprehensively evaluate. Students are supported to study online through the OLM system, with a test bank, practice and automatic scoring. This is especially useful for students who are both studying vocational and cultural studies,” said Mr. Huy.

In the 2025 high school graduation exam, Far East College had 413 students of the 9+ program taking the exam, of which 2 candidates failed the graduation exam. Immediately after receiving the information, the school invited the two students to the school to encourage them and find out the reason why the 2 students failed due to writing the wrong exam code.

Ms. Phan Thi Le Thu - Permanent Vice Principal of Far East College said: "Through practice, we have learned that in addition to focusing on review, we need to provide more thorough training on the test-taking process, exam psychology, and instructions on how to read the questions, check personal information, and test codes for students before submitting their papers to avoid unfortunate incidents. At the same time, through mock exams, we will summarize common mistakes of candidates to evaluate and learn from them."

Ms. Thu added that this year the school will develop more reference questions and especially build a set of practice tests on the computer so that students can proactively access the practice test software, and the results will be automatically available at the end of the test. Thus, after each test, students will know their ability and limitations. As for students who fail the graduation exam, we will provide free review support so that they can participate in the High School Graduation Exam next year.

Ms. Phung Thi Lien - Deputy Head of the Faculty of Vocational Education, Central College of Transport I said: “From practical experience, in the 2025 - 2026 school year, the school will implement the model of pairs of friends progressing together right at the beginning of the school year. Currently, Circular 29/2024 has been applied, so this model will support students to study at home and outside of school hours. During the implementation process, the school will assign teachers to act as advisors and support each pair of friends.”
