According to Ptexim's forecast, Vietnam's pepper output in 2025 will decrease by about 5-10% compared to 2024. The main reason is due to the shrinking area, when farmers switch to more profitable crops such as coffee and durian.
From a market perspective, China imported an average of 40,736 tons of pepper from Vietnam from 2019 to 2024 (including two years of Covid-19 lockdown in 2021 and 2022). In 2024, China imported only 10,549 tons, down 82.4% compared to 2023 and down 74% compared to the average import volume over the past six years.
Therefore, Ptexim believes that if the Chinese market increases imports again, pepper prices will increase sharply. In case the Chinese market maintains a slow import level, pepper prices will still increase, but at a slower rate.
