World gold price today
World gold prices increased, with spot gold prices rising by $12 to $3,317.2 an ounce. Gold futures last traded at $3,313 an ounce, up $18 from early this morning.
Gold prices posted a third straight gain on Wednesday and hit a one-week high, helped by a weaker dollar and safe-haven demand amid economic and geopolitical uncertainty.
The US Dollar Index fell 0.6%, making gold cheaper to buy for holders of other currencies.
Wall Street stocks fell as markets watched the debate in the US Congress over President Donald Trump's tax cut proposal, amid Moody's downgrade of the US credit rating. Moody's said the decision to downgrade the credit rating was due to the rising trend of public debt, expected to reach 134% of GDP by 2035.
Gold prices have been holding at moderately high levels recently as investors await signs of more trade and tariff deals, according to Daniel Pavilonis, senior market strategist at RJO Futures.
The US economic outlook remains weak despite a temporary easing of the US-China trade war, a Reuters poll showed.
Known as a safe investment amid economic and geopolitical uncertainty, gold bullion has broken records this year and hit an all-time high of $3,500.05 an ounce last month.
“We expect the recent decline in gold prices to spur buying activity, as the macroeconomic and geopolitical landscape remains uncertain,” ANZ said in a note.
Meanwhile, US Federal Reserve (Fed) officials earlier this week advised patience with interest rate decisions, noting that US import tariffs are pushing prices higher.
With the domestic gold bar price increasing sharply and the world gold price listed at Kitco at 3,317.2 USD/ounce (equivalent to about 104.5 million VND/tael converted according to Vietcombank exchange rate, excluding taxes and fees), the difference between domestic and world gold prices is about 16.5 million VND/tael.
