A survey by VTC News on the evening of April 20 on online ticket sales sites showed that round-trip tickets for the Hanoi - Phu Quoc route of Vietjet Air departing on April 28 and returning on May 2 cost from 3.8 to 4.2 million VND. Meanwhile, round-trip tickets of Bamboo Airways and Vietnam Airlines departing on April 28 and returning on May 2 cost from 5.2 to 6.4 million VND, a decrease of more than 3 million VND/round-trip ticket compared to before April 15.
Meanwhile, the Ho Chi Minh City - Phu Quoc route departing on April 28 and returning on May 2 of the airlines also fluctuated from 2.8 million to 3.5 million VND, down more than 2 million VND compared to last week.
Airlines all increase flights during the holidays to meet people's travel needs.
The sharper decline also occurred on the most important domestic flight route from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi , down 50% compared to bookings made 10 days ago or earlier. Round-trip fares on this route are currently fluctuating between VND3.8 and VND5.8 million.
Similarly, the Hanoi - Nha Trang route also has a much better price than last week. Specifically, round-trip tickets from Hanoi - Nha Trang departing on April 28 and returning on May 2 have also decreased from 2-3 million VND/ticket compared to last week to 5.8-7.4 million VND today, April 20.
For flights from Hanoi to Hue and vice versa, customers no longer have to pay up to 12 million VND/ticket like in previous weeks. Currently, round-trip tickets for the Hanoi - Hue route departing on April 28 and returning on May 2 only fluctuate between 3.8 - 5.2 million VND on all airlines.
Mr. Dinh Viet Thang, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, said that to meet the travel demand during peak holiday days, the Authority has issued a document requesting airlines to increase flights to meet the travel demand of people at tourist destinations.
Specifically, from April 26 to May 4, at Tan Son Nhat airport to tourist destinations such as Phu Quoc, Da Nang, Hue, Quy Nhon, airlines have increased 30 flights/day. At Noi Bai airport to tourist destinations such as Hue, Saigon, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Quy Nhon, Nha Trang, airlines have also increased more than 30 flights/day. As for Noi Bai airport, due to many empty slots, airlines may be required to continue increasing flights if people's travel demand increases.
“According to the principles and laws of supply and demand, when demand is higher than supply, ticket prices are high, when supply is higher than demand, ticket prices decrease. The Department directs airlines to increase flights to serve people’s travel needs and not interfere with airline ticket prices,” said Mr. Thang.
Statistics from airlines during the two peak days of April 28-29 show that the total number of seats offered to the market on flights from Hanoi to key tourist destinations such as Nha Trang, Da Nang, Hue, Da Lat, Phu Quoc, Tuy Hoa, Quy Nhon, Dong Hoi is about more than 41,000 seats.
On April 29, the booking rate for the Hanoi - Hue route reached 100%. The Hanoi - Dong Hoi/Quy Nhon route reached over 96% and the Hanoi - Tuy Hoa route reached 93%.
Similarly, the number of bookings on April 29 from Ho Chi Minh City to the above tourist destinations was also high. With a total of about 40,000 seats available, the occupancy rate on routes such as Ho Chi Minh City - Quy Nhon/Phu Quoc/Tuy Hoa was over 80%. The Ho Chi Minh City - Tuy Hoa route alone reached 100%.
Explaining the significant reduction in ticket prices, a representative of an airline said that the increase in flights under the direction of the Civil Aviation Authority and to meet the increased travel demand of people during the holidays has resulted in some flights having lower prices. However, this is a new price, not a price reduction because most of the previously scheduled flights have been sold out.
This representative also said that there is no such thing as airlines "hoarding tickets" because airlines must open ticket sales according to the number of flight slots granted by the Civil Aviation Authority, ticket prices are always opened for sale flexibly according to the market situation with a variety of prices and comply with domestic price ceiling regulations.
