World crude oil prices
According to the record at 11:30 a.m. (Vietnam time) on the oilprice website, the price of WTI oil decreased by 0.24 USD/barrel, equivalent to 0.38%, to 62.99 USD/barrel. Meanwhile, the price of Brent oil also decreased by 0.3 USD/barrel, equivalent to 0.45%, currently trading at 66.33 USD/barrel.
The rise in oil prices was supported by the temporary agreement between the US and China to reduce import tariffs for 90 days. This agreement not only helped ease trade tensions but also created positive sentiment in global financial and energy markets. At the same time, the recovery of the US stock market and the rise of the US dollar also contributed to the recovery trend of oil prices.
Another factor supporting the market was lower-than-expected US inflation data in April, which eased the pressure on the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates. This gave the oil market a breather and created more momentum for price increases.
However, OPEC+’s plan to increase production by about 411,000 barrels per day from May is putting pressure on oil prices. In addition, Saudi Arabia – the second largest exporter of oil to China – also said it would maintain high supply levels in June, which somewhat limited the price recovery.
Still, demand for refined products like gasoline and diesel remains strong. According to JPMorgan’s analysis, reduced refining capacity, especially in the U.S. and Europe, has made the refining market tighter. This increases the risk of supply disruptions and could put pressure on retail gasoline prices in the near term.

During the operating period on May 8, the Joint Ministry did not set aside or use the Price Stabilization Fund for all petroleum products. This shows that the operator is flexible in stabilizing domestic prices, while also reflecting positive signals from the world market with the previous trend of slightly decreasing oil prices.
Currently, the market is waiting for the next adjustment period scheduled to take place on May 15, in the context of a sharp increase in world oil prices, which may put pressure on domestic retail gasoline prices in the coming time.
