Today's oil prices (March 31): World oil prices started the new trading week in the green. Domestic oil prices are likely to continue to increase.
World oil prices
According to Oilprice , at 5:30 a.m. on March 31 (Vietnam time), both Brent and WTI oil prices increased slightly by 13 cents and 19 cents, respectively.
Concerns about tariffs and their impact on the global economy ; falling US oil and gasoline inventories helped oil prices extend their weekly gains last week. With Brent crude up 1.9% and WTI crude up 1.6%, oil prices last week set a hat-trick of weekly gains. According to Since hitting a multi-month low in early March, Brent has gained more than 7% and WTI has climbed more than 6%, according to Reuters .
Tariffs will continue to be a major factor in oil markets this week, with President Donald Trump expected to announce his tariff policies on April 2. The announcement will reveal which countries and sectors his administration will target as it tries to reduce the $1.2 trillion global goods trade deficit.
Governments from Ottawa to Paris threatened retaliation on March 27 after Mr. Trump announced a 25% tariff on imported cars, hurting auto stocks and testing already strained relations with allies.
Angelo Kourkafas, senior investment strategist at Edward Jones, said the April 2 announcement is “likely not a one-off event.” While it is an important milestone, it ultimately does not resolve all the underlying uncertainties that remain.
Market reaction on April 2 will depend heavily on the timing of future tariffs, especially sectoral tariffs, and how quickly other countries can retaliate with reciprocal tariffs, said Matthew Aks, senior strategist at Evercore ISI.
Investors are concerned that tariffs will increase the risk of long-term damage to the U.S. economy. U.S. consumer confidence fell to its lowest level in more than four years in March, as investors grew increasingly worried about a recession and higher inflation due to tariffs.
This week, in addition to the above tariff announcement, investors will also focus on the US monthly employment report, scheduled for release on April 4.
In another development, on March 30, US President Donald Trump threatened to bomb and impose additional tariffs on Iran if Tehran fails to reach an agreement with Washington on its nuclear program. Mr. Donald Trump said that if no agreement is reached, he will impose secondary tariffs on Iran as he did four years ago.
Domestic retail prices of gasoline on March 31 are as follows:
E5 RON 92 gasoline is not more than 20,032 VND/liter. RON 95-III gasoline is not more than 20,424 VND/liter. Diesel oil not more than 18,217 VND/liter. Kerosene not more than 18,524 VND/liter. Fuel oil not exceeding 16,902 VND/kg. |
The above domestic retail prices of gasoline and oil will be adjusted by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Trade in the price management session on the afternoon of April 3. Due to the increase in world gasoline and oil prices last week, domestic gasoline and oil prices may continue to increase.
In the most recent price adjustment, the price of E5 RON 92 gasoline increased by 337 VND/liter, RON 95-III gasoline increased by 337 VND/liter, kerosene increased by 406 VND/liter, diesel increased by 324 VND/liter. Only fuel oil decreased by 53 VND/kg.
