Legion XIII is the newest team on the LIV Golf League, led by former world number one Jon Rahm and named after the Roman legion, which just so happens to match reality.

LIV Golf League announced Legion XIII with Rahm as captain on January 30. This is the 13th team in the golf arena of the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), which has an estimated total net worth of more than $600 billion. And so, the name Rahm reflects that scale in the Roman letters. Moreover, it also shows the personnel structure in which "X" is captain and "III" is number of soldiers.
All teams in the LIV Golf League have a captain and three members. Rahm chose Legion for the first part of the name because it was the name of the iconic legion in the Roman army during the time of Emperor Julius Caesar, representing the spirit of fighting and loyalty.
"I chose the team name based on the warrior spirit. The XIII Legion in Caesar's army is what I like best," the Spanish golfer explained the origin of his team's name.

Rahm's team has recruited Tyrrell Hatton - a golfer who has won many cups on the DP World Tour and PGA Tour, young star Caleb Surratt and Kieran Vincent, who has just completed two years of professional experience, including winning the International Series Vietnam on the Asian Tour in March 2023. Hatton's estimated salary on the LIV Golf League is 63.35 million USD, much more than his combined income on the two biggest golf arenas in the world.
Legion XIII will begin its LIV Golf League action at the 2024 season opener in Mayakoba, Mexico.
Rahm announced his move to the LIV Golf League last month, with a reported salary of at least $300 million. Before moving to the arena, Rahm was an A-list star in the top professional golf systems in the US and Europe, demonstrating through 11 PGA Tour cups and 10 DP World Tour victories. In the world professional men's golf rankings, he accumulated 52 weeks as the number one.
