On the evening of July 22, the Vietnam U23 team competed for a ticket to the semi-finals with Cambodia U23 in the final round of Group B of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Tournament held in Indonesia.
Before this match, with the approval of the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) and the tournament organizing committee, both teams observed a minute of silence for the victims of the tourist boat capsize accident in Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh).
This is a meaningful action by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the Vietnam U23 team when they proposed to take a minute of silence for the victims in their homeland and were agreed by the AFF and the organizing committee.
A boat capsized due to a storm on the afternoon of July 19, leaving 49 people in distress in Ha Long Bay. In addition to the 10 survivors, 37 people died and 2 victims are still missing at sea.
In this match, just a draw against U23 Cambodia, the U23 Vietnam team will win the ticket to the semi-finals with the top position in the group. However, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team entered the match with the determination to win.
