On the evening of July 22, the U23 Vietnam team competed for a ticket to the semi-finals with U23 Cambodia in the final round of Group B of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship held in Indonesia.
Before this match, with the approval of the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) and the tournament organizers, both teams observed a minute of silence to commemorate the victims of the tourist boat capsize accident in Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh).
This is a meaningful action by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the Vietnam U23 team when they proposed to set aside a minute of silence for the victims in their homeland and were agreed by the AFF and the organizing committee.
A boat capsized due to a storm in Ha Long Bay on the afternoon of July 19. In addition to the 10 survivors, 37 people died and 2 victims are still missing at sea.
In this match, just a draw against U23 Cambodia, the U23 Vietnam team will win the ticket to the semi-finals as the group leader. However, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team entered the match with the determination to win.
