"Education in the capital must move towards elegant education"

(CPV) - Minister Nguyen Kim Son emphasized: "The capital'seducation needs to aim higher than the general requirements of the whole country, aiming to educate and create elegant citizens of the capital, with cultural awareness, social responsibility and knowing how to live happily for themselves and for the community. To do so, the capital's education must aim to be an elegant education."


On the morning of November 12, at the National Convention Center, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training (DET) held a ceremony to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the capital's education and training sector, the 42nd anniversary of Vietnam Teachers' Day, and to receive the First Class Labor Medal.

Attending the ceremony, on the side of Hanoi city were Secretary of the City Party Committee Bui Thi Minh Hoai; Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh; and leaders of departments, branches, socio-political organizations, District Party Committees, People's Councils, People's Committees of districts, towns... On the side of the Ministry of Education and Training were Minister Nguyen Kim Son, former Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Huu Do; representatives of departments, offices, and inspectors of the Ministry.

The capital's education system has developed strongly in terms of scale and quality.

Speaking at the 70th anniversary of the Capital Education Sector, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong said that the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Capital Education and Training Sector and the 42nd anniversary of Vietnam Teachers' Day is a special occasion to look back on the development journey from the difficult beginnings, step by step transformation and through the resistance war against the US to the day of national reunification, strong, confident and making breakthroughs in the period of innovation and international integration.

Over the past 70 years, with the continuous efforts of building, innovating and creating by generations of leaders, teachers and cadres; by implementing drastic and synchronous solutions, the Capital's Education and Training sector has made great strides in terms of scale, quality and efficiency, worthy of being a major educational center; a place to train and provide important human resources for the cause of building the Capital and the country.

After 70 years of construction, growth and development, Hanoi City has not only promoted traditional cultural values, but also become a center connecting global values. The Capital's Education and Training sector has proactively expanded and improved the effectiveness of international cooperation with countries around the world, attracted and effectively used resources from international cooperation for education, training and scientific research; implemented the work of preparing a dossier to request UNESCO to recognize Hanoi as a Learning City - becoming a member of the Global Learning City Network.

Affirming that the 70th anniversary is not only a milestone but also an opportunity to affirm the mission and development orientation of Hanoi's education in the future, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong emphasized: "The entire education and training sector of the capital today will continue to promote the fine traditions of Hanoi's revolutionary history and the traditional history of the sector over the past 70 years, always remembering and determined to implement the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh: "No matter how difficult it is, we must continue to compete to teach well, study well", to do our best to serve the country and the people. At the ceremony, Minister Nguyen Kim Son, on behalf of the leaders of the Education and Training sector, sent his best wishes to the education sector of Hanoi for its great results and achievements, contributing significantly to the successful development of the country, the capital and the education sector in general.

“The achievements of the Capital's education over the past 70 years will be an important premise, creating momentum for the Capital's education sector to continue to develop, overcome new challenges, and fulfill new missions to meet the development needs of the Capital in the new period,” Minister Nguyen Kim Son emphasized.

The Minister also pointed out that the Capital's education sector, as a pillar of the national education sector, is also facing common challenges and opportunities for the entire education sector. One of the major challenges, according to the Minister, is the need to continue to innovate and improve quality, meeting the human resource needs for a new development stage with many new requirements of the country in the context of rapid development of science and technology, diverse and constantly changing human resource needs and requirements. Along with that are many challenges in implementing major tasks of the education sector. In addition, the Capital's education sector also faces specific challenges such as: Students are concentrated in large numbers, unevenly distributed and fluctuate, leading to difficulties in dividing routes, meeting the great learning needs and the shortage of local public schools in some areas. Lack of space, planning of school and classroom networks in some inner-city districts, places with many industrial parks, new urban areas... still face many difficulties and challenges...

Emphasizing that our country is on the path of development, education and training are constantly innovating and improving quality; in the new era, continuing the thousand-year history and 70-year tradition of modern times, the Minister expressed his wish that the capital's education will continue the tradition, continue to be a model and pioneer for education nationwide.

According to the Minister, education today emphasizes the comprehensive development of human beings as the focus and goal. In the comprehensive development of human beings, the education of the capital needs to aim higher than the general requirements of the whole country, aiming to educate and create elegant citizens of the capital, with cultural awareness, social responsibility and knowing how to live happily for themselves and for the community.

To do so, the education system of the capital must aim for an elegant education. In which, schools must be elegant schools, teachers and students must be elegant. There, schools must be places where students are guaranteed safety, no school violence, no swearing, no forced extra classes. There, social evils are avoided and there exists a typical cultural school environment. Most importantly, there, people treat each other with love and responsibility.

To have an elegant education system, the Minister believes that it is necessary to implement well the culture of education and cultural education. The elegance of education can be completely built on the good achievements that we have had and are having.

The Minister also noted that the capital's education needs to focus on solving urgent issues such as: Reducing the gap in education quality between regions and schools; reducing the gap between key education results and mass education so that students in any region, school, or class can access the best educational environment and quality.

The Capital's education also needs to better resolve the relationships between schools and society, schools and localities, teachers and parents, etc. to create an educational environment with proper order; where the quality of education is guaranteed, the dignity of the teaching profession is respected, teachers are exemplary, students are exemplary. Only with an elegant education system, aiming at international standards, can we create civilized and elegant people of the Capital in the new era.

Facing a new stage of development, the Hanoi Education sector needs to make the best use of the achieved results, continue to strongly and comprehensively innovate teaching methods and management work to continuously improve the quality of education in a comprehensive manner.

On the occasion of the Vietnamese Teachers' Day on November 20, on behalf of the leaders of the Education and Training sector, Minister Nguyen Kim Son sent his thanks and best wishes to the teachers. At the same time, he expressed his deep pride in the teachers and hoped that they would always find joy in their work and always be happy with their careers.

At the ceremony, on behalf of the Hanoi Party Committee Secretary Bui Thi Minh Hoai, she awarded the First Class Labor Medal to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.

On this occasion, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training honored 56 teachers who were recently awarded the titles of "People's Teacher" and "Excellent Teacher" by the President.

After 70 years of development, up to now, the Capital's Education and Training sector has the largest scale in the country with 2,913 kindergartens, general schools at all levels, nearly 2.3 million students and nearly 130,000 teachers, 1 Education Staff Training School, 29 Vocational Education - Continuing Education Centers. Of which, nearly 80% of public schools meet national standards, 23 are high-quality schools; 120 universities and colleges in the city with nearly 1 million students. Up to now, the whole sector has nearly 130,000 teachers at all levels and fields of study; 342 teachers have been awarded the title "People's Teacher", "Excellent Teacher" by the President...
