With two highly practical challenges, the Zalo AI Challenge is not only a technological playground but also a platform for young Vietnamese talents to apply AI to solve pressing social problems, from rescue operations to traffic safety.
First held in 2018, the Zalo AI Challenge has become a prestigious event, attracting thousands of participating teams each year. This year, with a total prize pool of up to $12,000, the competition further affirms Zalo's commitment to supporting the country in developing human resources and building AI sovereignty .
Dr. Chau Thanh Duc - Deputy Head of the competition organizing committee, Director of Research & Development at Zalo AI, shared: "Vietnam has great potential to rise in this field, thanks to its talented young workforce. The Zalo AI Challenge is organized to introduce the latest trends to the Vietnamese AI community through highly applicable and practical problems."

The message "AI is a reliable partner" is conveyed directly through two challenging problems.
Firstly, search and rescue using AI-powered AeroEyes. In the context of increasingly severe natural disasters and floods, the competition topic "AeroEyes - Finding and Rescuing with AI-Powered Drones" holds immense social value. The challenge requires teams to develop algorithms to automatically control drones to search for people or important objects in harsh environments such as flooded areas or dense forests.
AI technology combined with drones is opening up a breakthrough in rescue operations. Instead of relying on manual observation, these airborne "eyes" can scan tens of square kilometers in minutes, analyzing images in real time to detect people in distress. This helps rescue forces pinpoint locations accurately, optimize resources, and significantly shorten response times. The challenge simulates a real-life search and rescue mission, requiring competing teams not only to have knowledge of AI but also the ability to solve problems in emergency situations.
Secondly, RoadBuddy – a "virtual assistant" that understands traffic. With the complex traffic situation in large cities like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, driving safety is a pressing issue. The competition topic, "RoadBuddy – Understanding the Road through Dashcam AI," aims to build an intelligent driving assistant capable of "understanding" video content from a dashcam.
This AI system will have to recognize road signs, traffic lights, and hazardous situations to quickly answer the driver's questions. This technology not only helps minimize accidents caused by distraction but also assists drivers in complying with traffic laws, contributing to a safer and more civilized traffic environment.
The Zalo AI Challenge 2025 retains the familiar Kaggle competition format, allowing teams to continuously update their results on the Leaderboard in real time. After the competition, Zalo also encourages teams to share their solutions with the community, creating an open space for learning and exchanging experiences.
Through practical problems, high-quality training datasets, and valuable prizes, the organizers hope to promote the development of the Vietnamese AI community, not only limited to large companies but also extending to students and small research groups.
Registration officially opens on October 27, 2025, and submissions close on November 20, 2025. Final results will be evaluated on a separate dataset to ensure objectivity and fairness. With mentorship from leading AI experts, the Zalo AI Challenge 2025 promises to continue being a top-tier intellectual arena where innovative ideas are nurtured and technological solutions deliver real value to life.
