Giggs revealed on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast: "We met Van Gaal in a hotel room in Holland. Louis was mad. Really mad. When he opened the door, me and Ed Woodward were standing there. Louis looked at me and punched me straight in the stomach."

"He said: 'You're still in good shape,' and then punched me. I thought: 'What the hell is he doing?'", the MU legend shared.

After that punch, Van Gaal continued to surprise Giggs by asking him to evaluate the MU squad, telling him who should stay and who should go. Giggs continued: "I said we should only eliminate one player. Van Gaal immediately agreed and said I had the same thoughts as him."

Giggs then took up the position of assistant coach at MU, leading the team with Van Gaal until 2016. Although Van Gaal had unexpected actions, Giggs said he was very good and helped him learn many things.

After Ferguson retired in 2013, David Moyes was appointed as MU manager, but only lasted 9 months. When Van Gaal arrived in 2014, he was expected to help the team regain stability after a difficult period.

Van Gaal had an impressive career with Barcelona, Ajax, Bayern Munich and the Netherlands national team before coming to MU. However, he could only help the "Red Devils" win the FA Cup and soon left with a style of play that was considered boring.
