In the midst of national festivals, artists should not speak insensitively.

After MC Bich Hong, male model Le Trung Cuong made another insensitive statement about the parade celebrating the April 30th holiday, which is an artist's irresponsibility.

When insensitive words touch sacred values

In the atmosphere of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) - a brilliant milestone in the nation's history, public opinion was extremely outraged when MCs and artists, instead of sympathizing and expressing gratitude, chose to complain, lament, and insensitively express their "tiredness" about the activities celebrating the April 30th holiday.

That is, after MC Bich Hong's statement, male model and singer Le Trung Cuong continued to make statements that caused public outrage about military parades and marches. On his personal page, Le Trung Cuong wrote: " I hope this big event will pass quickly. I'm starting to feel tired of traffic jams, road blocks, and military planes roaring overhead every morning. The United Nations Vesak is just over April 30, I'm really tired ."

This status line is not simply insensitive, but also shows a lack of responsibility for the social role that an artist - a public figure must have. Immediately after receiving strong public reactions, the male artist deleted the post, but absolutely did not apologize. That silence not only did not ease the anger but also made the public more disappointed.

Le Trung Cuong's outrageous status

Artists are considered to be inspirational, so their words are no longer just personal opinions. A status line written out of “temporary emotions” can leave scars on public perception, especially among young people – those who have never witnessed war, but are learning about patriotism through cultural symbols and the behavior of celebrities.

It is even more worth pondering when those statements were made in the context of a group of artists - those who are in a position to spread beautiful values in the community - choosing to react selfishly and superficially. And they themselves are wasting the role and position that the public has entrusted to them, turning themselves from cultural icons into icons of superficiality and lack of civic responsibility.

A social media user commented: “ Are you as tired as the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their youth to chase away foreign invaders with the spirit of 'Splitting Truong Son to save the country with a bright future'? Are you as tired as the soldiers who practiced day and night under the sun to prepare for the solemn parade? Don't let your selfish feelings make you ungrateful.”

Gratitude is not a choice

The April 30th parade is not a show of force but an occasion to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives for the independence and freedom of the nation. It is a symbol of patriotism, solidarity, and a journey that the Vietnamese people have steadfastly gone through, from pain to pride.

Right at the press conference announcing the series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day recently, Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Hai Binh shared emotionally: These days, people across the country are looking towards Ho Chi Minh City with the most special feelings and emotions. From excitement, enthusiasm, to pride and gratitude. The joy is not only from millions of people in the country but also from international friends, those who have accompanied and followed the journey of the struggle for independence of the Vietnamese people.

And, the activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the April 30 victory are the moment for the whole nation to show gratitude, not only through rituals but also through actions, attitudes, and words containing gratitude and responsibility for the future. As Mr. Le Hai Binh emphasized: The past is what the Vietnamese people have gone through, with so much pain and loss to gain independence, freedom, unity and development of the country; the present is the achievements in socio-economy, foreign affairs, national defense and security... that Vietnam is having. It is also gratitude for the difficult journeys that have been passed and the future is when the country is striving to enter a new era...

With that meaning, more than ever, every citizen and every artist needs to be clearly aware that each of their words and actions not only express their personality, but also contribute to shaping the cultural atmosphere and national spirit today. Each person must know how to join in the common joy, know how to cherish historical memories; deeply appreciate the sacrifices of compatriots and soldiers for independence, freedom and national unification, so that the country can have the brilliant development as it is today.

As for artists, we cannot and should not force them to become historians. But we have the right to demand that they maintain a minimum understanding of national history, which creates the identity and cultural depth of an entire nation. A country cannot grow if the younger generation grows up in oblivion and indifference to what has created today's peace.
