Helping Barcelona win the championship, Lamine Yamal equals Ronaldo's achievements

(Dan Tri) - 17-year-old striker Lamine Yamal helped Barcelona win La Liga 2 rounds early and equaled Cristiano Ronaldo's achievement while playing for Real Madrid.

Early morning of May 16 (Vietnam time), Barcelona won 2-0 against host Espanyol in the Catalan derby. Striker Lamine Yamal continued to shine when he contributed to both of Barcelona's goals.

The young Spanish talent scored a superb goal to open the scoring in the 53rd minute, before assisting Fermin Lopez to score the winning goal for coach Hansi Flick's team.

Barcelona officially won La Liga for the 28th time in history with 2 rounds early, ending the 2024/25 season with a complete domestic treble: La Liga, King's Cup and Spanish Super Cup.

For Yamal personally, this is his second La Liga title, although the 17-year-old player has only played professionally for Barcelona's first team for three seasons.

The striker born in 2007 once lifted the La Liga championship trophy in the 2022-23 season, and just two years later, he did it again in Barcelona's shirt, but this time as a mainstay player rather than an emerging talent.

Remarkably, Lamine Yamal has now equalled the number of La Liga titles that Ronaldo won for Real Madrid but in a much shorter period of time.

While the Portuguese star needed 9 seasons to win 2 championships in Spain, corresponding to the 2011-2012 and 2016-2017 seasons, Yamal did this in just 3 years and was only 17 years old.

This is also the third championship that Yamal and Barcelona have won this season, after the double title at the Spanish Super Cup and King's Cup. More broadly, the player born in 2007 has had a total of 5 major titles in his career, including 4 championships with Blaugrana and one time lifting the Euro 2024 title in the Spanish national team.

"Comparing eras is not entirely fair, but he is a player of such exceptional talent that you feel he could play in any era of the sport and in any team," former Spain star David Villa praised Lamine Yamal and expressed his belief that the 17-year-old will one day win the Ballon d'Or.
