Every time Arda Güler plays, Real Madrid not only gains goals and inspiration, but also has to spend more money.

Xabi Alonso's absolute faith is turning the 20-year-old talent into a profitable investment… but also a costly one.

Real Madrid just had to pay Fenerbahçe an additional 2 million euros after Guler reached the 75-game mark. That was a bonus clause in the contract, and certainly not the last time “Los Blancos” had to pay. The next milestones, 100 and 125 games, also come with similar bonuses. With his current form, Guler could completely reach the 100 mark this season.

From being a “long-term project”, Guler is becoming part of Xabi Alonso’s winning system. This season, he has appeared in all 14 Real Madrid matches, scored 3 goals, assisted 6 and played more than 900 minutes. No longer a rough diamond, Guler is now truly shining, with his exquisite ball handling, cool finishing and rare understanding with Kylian Mbappe.

Interestingly, Alonso had his eye on Guler early on, when he was in charge of Bayer Leverkusen. And now, at the Bernabeu, he’s proving himself right. Under Alonso’s guidance, the Turkish player has not only improved, but is now among the top eight players in the team with the most appearances – ahead of young talents like Dean Huijsen and Franco Mastantuono.

Real Madrid are literally “digging for diamonds”: the more they are polished, the brighter they become, but also the more expensive they are. For Ggler, that is the amount Florentino Perez is willing to pay, because those young legs are bringing the football that Madrid has always craved: the sophistication, creativity and instinct of a true star.
