Hanoi flexibly offers solutions for students in flooded areas to study in person.

Take students to school

Due to the impact of storm No. 3 and the post-storm circulation, the water level of Bui River rose, causing prolonged flooding at Nam Phuong Tien A Primary School and Nam Phuong Tien Secondary School (Nam Phuong Tien Commune, Chuong My District). With the weather forecast to continue to be complicated and the time of water receding unknown, the leaders of Chuong My District People's Committee, the District Education and Training Department and Nam Phuong Tien Commune People's Committee decided to find a solution for students to return to school soon.

Flooded students are happy to be able to study directly at school.

Through surveying and understanding the actual situation, local leaders developed a plan to send students from two schools (Nam Phuong Tien A Primary School and Nam Phuong Tien Secondary School) to study at other schools; in which Nam Phuong Tien A Primary School would study at the location of Nam Phuong Tien B Secondary School and Nam Phuong Tien Secondary School would study at Tan Tien Secondary School.

Principal of Nam Phuong Tien A Primary School Kieu Thi Minh Hoa shared that when receiving the information that the school would allow students to study at Nam Phuong Tien B Secondary School, the teachers, parents and students were very happy. So since September 23, teachers and students of the school have met in person to implement the program content of the 2024-2025 school year after nearly 3 weeks of not being able to go to class.

Due to the low-lying flooded area, most of the students of Nam Phuong Tien A Primary School have moved to many places with their families, some of them staying with relatives in Quoc Oai, Thuong Tin, Thach That... or taking shelter in neighboring communes. Therefore, taking students to school is not a simple matter.

“The homeroom teachers are the focal points of communication with their parents about the plan to take students to school. For families who live far away or whose parents are away, after consulting with the parents, the teachers take the students to their homes to eat and stay; they take them to school every day. Up to now, nearly 100% of the students have gone to school directly, including 5 students staying at the teachers' houses. In addition, the number of students who are taken to school by teachers every day is very large,” said Ms. Hoa.

As of September 24, in Ba Vi district, there is only one school in the central area of ​​Vat Lai Kindergarten that is flooded. Head of the Department of Education and Training of Ba Vi district, Phung Ngoc Oanh, said that the yard of the main school - Vat Lai Kindergarten is flooded about 10cm. In recent days, students of the school have been given flexibility in their learning methods. If the school yard is drained, students will go to school as usual; but if the yard is flooded, parents can send their children to study at the two satellite schools; otherwise, teachers will connect to teach online or send videos to guide students.

Wholeheartedly support students

Although teachers have to go to school from other places, and many teachers' families have suffered a lot of damage due to the floods, in order for students to be able to go to school directly, teachers do not hesitate to face difficulties and hardships but always wholeheartedly take care of and help their students.

Units are working to get students back to school in person soon.

Principal of Nam Phuong Tien A Primary School Kieu Thi Minh Hoa said that to take students to class, teachers have to leave early and come home late. As for teachers who take students home, they take care of them, eating, sleeping, and studying like their own children.

As a school with classrooms for rent, Principal of Tan Tien Secondary School Nguyen Thi Hong Thuy said that when local leaders suggested letting students from Nam Phuong Tien Secondary School come to study, she immediately agreed and started arranging facilities, classrooms, subject rooms... to welcome students from other schools.

“Tan Tien Secondary School organizes 100% of students to study in the morning; in the afternoon, all classrooms, classrooms and facilities are given to Nam Phuong Tien Secondary School. The school supports electricity and water during the time the other school comes to study; at the same time, it also arranges an office for the principal, a meeting room for teachers; and reminds students in the school to meet and welcome students from the other school with a friendly and open attitude,” said Principal of Tan Tien Secondary School Nguyen Thi Hong Thuy.

According to the Principal of Tan Tien Secondary School, the school arranged 9 classrooms for Nam Phuong Tien Secondary School but is currently only using 6. Because the school meets national standards level 2, it has many functional rooms so it can still arrange more classrooms when necessary. The school is willing to support other schools to study abroad if needed.

According to the Economic & Urban Newspaper updated this morning, nearly 100% of schools in the city have students returning to school in person. In Chuong My district, in addition to the 2 schools that are allowed to attend classes (Nam Phuong Tien A Primary School and Nam Phuong Tien Secondary School), the remaining schools have been allowed to attend classes in person.

In Son Tay town, only Xuan Son A Kindergarten has not been able to welcome students to school. In My Duc district, there are 2 kindergartens that are flooded (Hop Tien B Kindergarten and Dong Chiem - An Phu Kindergarten). In Ung Hoa district, the satellite school of Van Thai Primary School - which has been flooded for many days - has organized for students to study in person since September 23.

The general spirit that schools in the city thoroughly implement is: clean up as soon as the water recedes and bring students back to school in safe conditions.
