The Brazilian House of Representatives and Senate and the Vietnamese National Assembly need to step up high-level contacts.

Within the framework of his official visit to the Federal Republic of Brazil, on the afternoon of September 25 (local time), in the capital Brasilia, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Chairman of the Brazil-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group Márcio Honaiser and member parliamentarians.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Chairman of the Brazil-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group Márcio Honaiser and member parliamentarians.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that the two countries have many similarities. Vietnam wishes to promote cooperation with Brazil in all channels, at all levels and through people-to-people exchanges. The Prime Minister announced that he had just had a very successful meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, in which the two sides agreed to promote relations and cooperation in all fields.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the role of the Brazil-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group and individual parliamentarian Márcio Honaiser in promoting parliamentary diplomacy between Vietnam and Brazil; requested that parliamentarians and the Brazilian House of Representatives and Senate support and promote the negotiation and signing of trade agreements between Vietnam and Brazil, between Vietnam and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), between Brazil and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and between MERCOSUR and ASEAN; as well as the Investment Protection Agreement, the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement, etc. to expand economic, investment and trade relations between the parties.

Along with that, the two sides need to further promote cooperation in the fields of culture, tourism, sports, etc.; create conditions and support Vietnamese citizens to come to do business, live and study in Brazil.

The Prime Minister announced that he had just had a very successful meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, in which the two sides agreed to promote relations and cooperation in all fields.

Warmly welcoming Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to visit the Brazilian National Assembly, Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Márcio Honaiser expressed his admiration for Vietnam's struggle for independence; congratulated the great achievements of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly and people of Vietnam in the cause of national construction and development; and believed that the Prime Minister's official visit would further strengthen the comprehensive partnership between the two countries, the two National Assemblies and the two Parliamentary Friendship Groups.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Márcio Honaiser assessed that the relationship between the two parliaments has had positive developments in recent times; he said that the Brazilian House of Representatives not only wants to strengthen the Brazil-Vietnam relationship but also wants Vietnam to have good relations with MERCOSUR, as well as between Brazil and ASEAN.

Along with that, he affirmed that he would pay attention and encourage federal parliamentarians to promote the launch of the Vietnam - MERCOSUR FTA negotiations, as well as the Brazilian Government's recognition of Vietnam's market economy status. Mr. Márcio Honaiser and Brazilian parliamentarians wish to visit Vietnam to promote cooperation with more specific and diverse contents.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Márcio Honaiser warmly welcomed Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to visit the Brazilian National Assembly.

Agreeing with the opinions of Brazilian parliamentarians, the Prime Minister suggested that the Brazilian House of Representatives and Senate and the Vietnamese National Assembly strengthen coordination and mutual support to promote high-level contacts and exchanges of delegations at all levels in the coming time; enhance cooperation activities between the two National Assemblies in the fields of sharing legislative experience, promoting the role of the National Assembly in the political system, parliamentary diplomacy, and coordinating and supporting each other at multilateral international parliamentary forums.

On this occasion, through Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Márcio Honaiser, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh conveyed the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue to the President of the House of Representatives and the President of the Senate of Brazil to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.
