Father and son drifted at sea for 13 hours
At 11:30 this morning, the ship of Squadron 2 with the number 723 brought Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung and his daughter, NTPA (6 years old), safely to shore, and held a ceremony to hand over the two victims of the accident at sea to their families so they could return to their localities.
Reuniting with his relatives, Mr. Tung and his daughter could not help but choke up and burst into tears.
In a quick conversation with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Tung said: “My father and I were saved, as if revived. I am very grateful to the forces that saved my father and me.”
Mr. Tung said that on the afternoon of July 30, his family of four went from Nghe An to Xuan Thanh beach ( Ha Tinh ) to play. When they arrived, his wife and children sat on the shore, while he and his daughter went down to the shallow part of the beach.
Just a few minutes later, PA was playing with her Sup when suddenly the waves swept her away. Discovering the incident, Mr. Tung swam after her to save his daughter, but due to the strong waves, both father and daughter were swept out to sea.
“My father and I put on life jackets and hugged the Sup drifting on the sea. When I saw a light, I swam after it, and when I was tired, I rested. In the morning, I saw a cargo ship from afar and waved to the ship for help,” said Mr. Tung.

Mr. Tran Dinh Hai (44 years old) - captain of the cargo ship VINASHIN 555 said that the ship carrying stone departed from Nam Dinh to Dung Quat. When it reached the sea area of Dao Mat, the crew on the ship discovered Mr. T. and his son on the Sup drifting at sea, raising their hands for help.
“When I discovered the victim, I slowed down the ship and quickly approached to help. When T. and his son were brought onto the ship, they both felt quite tired. We gave them clothes to change into and cooked food for them. After a while, their health stabilized again,” said Mr. Hai.
According to Mr. Hai, the coast guard ship is currently approaching the cargo ship to complete procedures to bring Mr. T. and his son ashore. After completing the procedures, the cargo ship will continue its journey to Dung Quat.
"I am very happy to have successfully rescued Mr. T. and his son. In this case, if we saw someone in distress at sea, not only us, but anyone would come to the rescue," said Mr. Hai.

Searching through the night for victims
At around 4:30 p.m. on July 30, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung and his daughter PA were playing Sup on the beach. By 8 p.m. the same day, they still had not returned to shore, and were suspected to have been swept away by the waves.
Realizing this was an emergency situation, local authorities urgently reported to the Coast Guard Region 1 Command, requesting search and rescue assistance.
Immediately after receiving the information, the Command of Region 1 Command immediately directed Squadron 102 to dispatch boat 723 and 5 officers and soldiers to the scene, closely coordinating with border guards, local authorities and fishermen to organize a search at night. The mission was carried out in adverse weather conditions, with large waves and limited visibility.
