On the afternoon of November 15th, in commemoration of Vietnamese Teachers' Day on November 20th, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with 60 exemplary teachers representing over 1.6 million teachers nationwide.
From 251 outstanding teachers and administrators in 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training selected 40 outstanding teachers and administrators to represent over 1.6 million teachers and administrators at all levels nationwide and meet with the Prime Minister. In addition, there are 20 outstanding teachers and administrators from the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.
The meeting demonstrated the deep concern of the Prime Minister and the Party and State leaders for teachers in particular and the cause of education and training in general.
This is a great source of encouragement and motivation for teachers across the country; at the same time, it expresses respect, gratitude, and honor for teachers and the teaching profession in the noble cause of "nurturing future generations".
In his opening remarks at the meeting, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son stated that this is a positive annual event with profound significance for teachers and education administrators.
This year marks the fourth year that the Prime Minister has continued to maintain and dedicate time to this event. This is truly a great source of encouragement, attention, and motivation from the Prime Minister to the education sector in general and to teachers and education administrators in particular.
The Minister stated that, to date, including both public and private sectors, there are currently 1.6 million teachers nationwide at all levels of education, from preschool and primary school to vocational training and university.
Compared to the 2022-2023 school year, the number of teachers at all levels of education (preschool and general education) increased by 17,000. The number of educational administrators decreased by more than 700.
This is also the school year in which localities are actively organizing teacher recruitment, while simultaneously streamlining and reducing the number of administrative staff and school personnel.
Along with that, the pedagogical competence of most teachers has improved, and they are basically able to adapt to the requirements of reforming the content and methods of teaching and implementing the 2018 general education program.
However, according to the Minister of Education and Training, in addition to the existing challenges, one of the biggest challenges of this period is creating a legal framework that ensures the role, status, and rights of teachers, especially developing teachers to meet the new development requirements of the country in the new era.
Deeply aware of the challenges in developing the teaching force, the Ministry of Education and Training has clearly identified the short-term and long-term tasks that need to be implemented. Mr. Son said that the Ministry of Education and Training will continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Interior to review the number of staffing quotas and the current number of teachers.
From there, the Ministry will report to the Central Committee to supplement the staffing of the education sector for the 2024-2025 school year, within the total number of teacher positions to be supplemented by 2026 according to Decision No. 72-QD/TW of the Central Committee.
In addition, continue to direct and urge localities to recruit enough staff to meet the quotas assigned by competent authorities and address the shortage of teachers at all levels of education...
