Athletics continues to demonstrate Vietnam's strength at the SEA Games. In the 5,000m race, Nguyen Thi Oanh impressively overcame her competitors to win the gold medal with a time of 16 minutes 27 seconds 14.
Next, the mixed 4x400m relay team of Ta Ngoc Tuong, Le Ngoc Phuc, Nguyen Thi Ngoc, and Nguyen Thi Hang also won, achieving a time of 3 minutes 15 seconds 07, shattering the Thai record (3 minutes 19 seconds 29).
Other Vietnamese athletics teams also demonstrated great effort on the day of competition. Vu Thi Ngoc Ha, despite her injury, still managed to compete and win a bronze medal in the women's triple jump.

After the first few days of competition, host nation Thailand is leading with 196 medals, including 96 gold medals. Vietnam is temporarily ranked third (30 gold medals) compared to Indonesia (32 gold medals). The race is particularly fierce in athletics, the "queen" of the Games.
Speaking to a reporter from Tien Phong newspaper in Bangkok, the General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation, Nguyen Manh Hung, said that Thailand is currently temporarily ahead of Vietnam. The battle for the number one position at the SEA Games 33 will still be a contest between Vietnam and Thailand.
The distances that could make a difference are the women's high jump (Bui Thi Kim Anh and Duong Thi Thao); and the men's 4x400m and women's 4x100m relays.
"The team is still fully focused on the goal ahead. The host nation, Thailand, has a strong squad and the home advantage, but Vietnam is highly determined. We hope to achieve our set goal," said Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung.
