The future of midfielder Kobbie Mainoo at Manchester United is becoming a hot topic ahead of the winter transfer window.

According to Caught Offside , more than 12 clubs are monitoring the 2004-born midfielder, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich being the two most prominent names. However, Mainoo's preferred destination is Napoli, the reigning Serie A champions.

If he joins Diego Armando Maradona's stadium, Mainoo will be reunited with two former teammates, Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund. Hojlund is currently playing for Napoli on loan.

With the need for regular playing time to develop his career and maintain his place in the England squad, Mainoo's search for a new club in January 2026 is entirely understandable. Since Ruben Amorim took over as manager at Manchester United, Mainoo has struggled to secure a starting place.

The Portuguese manager frequently places his trust in the experienced midfield duo of Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes, leaving Mainoo mostly on the bench. This season, the 20-year-old has only made 11 appearances in all competitions.

Nevertheless, Mainoo is still highly regarded by Manchester United fans. Having come through the club's youth academy, he was once considered the future of MU's midfield. Of course, Mainoo still needs to work harder to prove himself worthy of a starting place at Old Trafford.
